Help me build a dedicated folder (+ introduction thread) :P - Page 3

Agreed on the asus board. Don't get the LE version... either the -v or the -v pro. If you're going z68, don't cheap it.

Now ram... as good as you can afford, as fast as possible. I'd get stuff that is fast at stock speeds, but that's me. 1.65v is no prob for SB.

Hey mate,

As stated in the op, I'm well aware of this fact, and my choice of the 2500k is for a team and I also want to push my first SB as far as it will go :-P

i agree with you choice of ram, counter to other peoples suggestions
to further that, high end ram seems like an expensive place to put money on a folding pc, the difference on sandybridge is small
i refer you to http://www.anandtech.com/show/4503/s...-the-best-ddr3

hope the artical offers so interesting stuff
and once again soz for asking a question
I didn't mean to come off as a jerk, I was just tired when I posted that. Generally unless your question is almost identical to some one else's it's best to start your own thread.

And yeah, 2133MHz RAM is a waste of money. RAM speed differences are trivial.

Also, if this is a 2500K build it's not a bigadv folder, which means GPU folding is good. bigadv requires an 8-core CPU to get bonus points IIRC - unless there's some new low power bigadv.

Are the 3K PPD trivial or are you saying it's not going to be that big a difference?

I'm saying buying 2000MHz or 2133MHz RAM is worth it. It's like $20 more for 3K PPD.

I'm saying since this isn't a bigadv folder, put the money into graphics cards.

Ah, yes, I was talking bigadv. SMP it makes like 1.5K difference, that many would be better spent elsewhere (on GPU's).

If its going to be on a team it will have to be a bigadv folder. No team will take him for just smp folding.
