Laptop with $600 Budget

post #1 of 5

Alright, my friend would like to purchase a new laptop. He said he'd like to spend no more than $600. I've never owned a laptop before so hopefully you guys can steer me in the right direction. Here is what I know:

Main Uses are for everyday tasks, internet, word proc, music, and movies.
(possible video and music editing, but if that would raise the cost by a large margin, forget it)

No brand loyalties

Screen Size Above 15.6"

Obviously as long a battery life as possible

Mostly just something durable and reliable that a person wouldn't have a problem with being their main computer.

Thanks guys and girls!

Theses seem reasonable and fit the bill.

I think I would grab this one;

Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 (10243TU)
Intel Core i3 2310M(2.10GHz)
15.6"
4GB Memory
500GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M

There's a lot of buzz around this deal at Bestbuy. Quad cpu, dedicated gpu+integrated for crossfire. Around $450. It had some screen issues but I guess a bio update fixed all that. Once I get the funding I'm getting one. Price cannot be beat in the price range.
Also, it comes with one 4gb stick so, grab another for $30 and this thing should be very quick.
