Crucial M4 128GB - slow boot time - Page 2

I agree with you.

The firmware is ok, the SATA ports are ok, even he can boot without problems sometimes. Why not do some continuous test with AS SSD or Cristal disk mark and compare results?

That's what I'm thinking too, the SSD itself.

First of all, the iaStor folder/key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStor) that's apparently suppoed to be there from the beginning in regedit was not actually there both times I clean installed Win7, and it was added manually along with its specific Port1 (I believe I was correct about the Port#'s) settings to disable LPM.
Maybe it's a laptop-only fix? I mean even Crucial assumes it'll be mostly laptop users who use their SSD...

I applied the registry fix to Port1, and it seemed to load past the Starting Windows screen faster than ever before, but then it suddenly decided to hang at the "Welcome" screen unnecessarily long (5-10 sec), whereas before it almost literally skip over that screen because it loads so fast...

Oh, (sorry stupid iTouch) I did some CrystalDiskMarks last install of W7:
1218qbo.jpg

Slightly lower results on 4000MB (by around 5MB/s)

It seemed consistant enough (albeit disappointing speeds)...

I'm now wondering whether the registry fix should actually be in the "iaStorV" folder/key instead...
And strangely, I removed the registry to see what would happen, and it decided to still hang on the Welcome screen for a few sec, without any HDD activity light visible...

I'm starting to entertain the idea of exchanging this thing at NCIX.

Sorry? AS SSD?
Oh yes, I will as soon as I can get it from the laptop over to the desktop (don't want to connect to internet just yet.

Not that the boot is REALLY slow or anything, it just seriously ticks me off that the boot time is nothing like what I've seen reported anywhere, including YouTube...

I just realized, the SSD is now not being quickly responsive after I load into Windows, (an SSD should load things after startup like it's nothing, no?)

You know what, I think I might go for another clean Win7 install. Got nothing to lose, and I'm getting desperate here...

This is interesting, my M4 did the "Windows is starting..." for like 30 seconds a while back but stopped randomly a while ago.

Still run AS SSD bench before reinstalling. It will show what driver and what port you use and also alignment. Post a screeny here and it will be much easier to recommend something.

Alright, as soon as I can steal the laptop from my sister.

Good news? I tried putting the SSD onto the 2nd SATA port on the mobo again, Nd it booted this time without much hang on the "Welcome" screen.
Maybe I was actually wrong about the Ports?
(currently: SSD -> SATA Port #2; Registry setting for "Port1")
