Then you must have read very old threads, because lately I see people reporting higher speeds with latest AMD drivers. It's also evident in AS SSD Benchmark thread.

Yes I think you're right, I've installed every single driver and patch except for Windows update, quite successfully, and boot/reboot speeds have been blazing fast. :3

I hope the rest of the process goes well.

Thread Starter
Don't the AMD drivers remove TRIM? I think that is what he meant by screwing with performance.
EDIT: AMD AHCI drivers now support TRIM apparently
--
I've also been talking with BPK today and he performed another clean install, installing everything in the right order. Although he only has to restart for windows update now, he states that there have been no problems with the booting sequence so far and everything has been fast and intended.

That should be correct. Most boards list ports starting at 0; mine has Port0, Port1, Port2, Port3, Port4, Port5.

Windows matches this - it starts at zero. If your board starts at Port1 and goes to Port6, then you just subtract one.

Actually, there is one way to check for sure - the dskcache.exe tool from Microsoft. (Not distributed anymore, but I have a copy) If you run dskcache +P PhysicalDrive0, dskcache +P PhysicalDrive1, etc. that confirms which drives Windows thinks are which.

It was better - but it doesn't mean it is better now. AMD's AHCI drivers are still being worked on. msahci is not.

There's no way to tell if the commands reach the SSD, except by gauging performance.

What's shown is that Windows is sending them to the AHCI drivers. (which either discard them or pass them along)

This confuses some people with RAID arrays. Windows says it's enabled, but the AHCI/RAID drivers simply discard the commands.

Herher... I'm trying to get all Windows Updates installed before I install my HDDs, as per this guide, but Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is not showing up at all. And I don't think I should manually install it... should I?

Because I don't want to install any programs whatsoever (AS SSD, CrystalDisk, etc) till I get my HDDs set up, just in case.

Where on earth is Win7 SP1. :c Yes I checked system info, it's not already there.

NVM, WinUpdate just took a while to get it for me,

That AS SSD score looks good for me, 100 points more than mine.

With all the updates, Is the problems still happening?

Nope, ever since I got that AHCI driver in, I've never had a slow boot at all!

I guess... all I've gotta do now is NOT screw up my computer in some maniac way, and hope it stays at this level of performance.

The performance of your SSD will slow down with the time, not for a problem, it's just the use.
