A bottleneck with a Q6600?

I'm in a predicament that I'm not sure which category it would fall into simply because I'm not sure what the problem is.

I have recently acquired a MSI GTX 560ti Frozr II/OC video card and an Intel Q6600. What I had before was a BFG 9800gt 1gb video card and Intel 6850. I have an Intel DP35DP motherboard.

When my new processor and video card came in, a put them in. Put some Artic Silver on the CPU and place the fan/heatsink on and booted it up. Everything booted fine and normal but when my Speedfan started up like normal, it was reading rather hot temps on my CPU; 61C and up. I let it sit and go to idle and the cores sat at about 45C. On my 6850 it would idle at about 35 to 38. When I would try to hop on Google Chrome, the CPU would heat up back to 60+ degrees and everything would get all slow. Gaming wasn't even a consideration, Steam would take literally whole minutes to start up.

I decided to pop my old 6850 back in with the 560ti still in and my temps and speed were the same, hot and slow. Thinking it might be a bottleneck, I put the Q6600 back in with my old 9800gt. Temps are now normal for the most part and there's no more slow downs. I’d find it hard to believe there would be a bottleneck with a 560ti and a Q6600.

Sorry for the complicated story but my question is: what is causing the problem and whatever is, what is the solution? Is it a mad bottleneck with the 560ti and a quad core cpu at 2.4ghz (Q6600) causing high temps which leads to slow downs? Is it my CPU fan/heatsink not good enough to cool the Q6600 with the 560ti? (I have a Thermaltake A4021, and yes I hate it).

Any suggestions would be a appreciated, it’s never fun getting something new and not being able to use it.

my GTX 260 would bottle neck on my q6600.

A 3.2 overclock will release that bottleneck a bit.

Yeh that cooler is as good as the stock one, you need something bigger,
...

Noctua D14!

Your cooler couldnt cool a calculator mate.

Bad CPU cooling mounting. Tooo much paste ... or something.

Ya you need a better heat sync, the one you have is not good.

I don't know if anyone will reply since it's been a few weeks since I asked, but if anyone cares, I managed to replace my crappy fan/heatsink with a Cooler Master Hyper 212+. The CPU temps are nice, running 25-30c on idle and 45-55c on max. BUT, my computer is still slow. I still can't play games at all (super low frame rates) on my 560ti. Steam took 4 minutes to load, I forgot that it was loading after 2. Going between folders on my computer are slow. And Google Chrome for some reason won't load pages, though that could be something different in entirety...

With my temps being now great, but my performance still terrible, I've ruled out it being a CPU cooling problem. With my DP35DP (a non OC'able mobo), I can't overclock the Q6600. I've tried doing it with setFSB, and can get to 2.7ghz but nothing changes, still slow. Don't know if it's a problem with a Q6600 being pared with a 560ti.

After doing some research, I've read that I might have a memory and CPU FSB problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I've got the Q6600 running at stock and the same with my RAM (DDR2 PC2-6400, 1gb x 4) with 32bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

Sorry if this seems like a weird problem, I'm very confused myself. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there's some easy fix that I can't see. It always sucks getting a new, sweet piece of hardware (MSI 560ti) and not being able to use it. Any suggestions, if any, will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe your memory timings are off causing an unstable system.

According to CPUID, the DRAM frequency is 400.1mhz. FSB : DRAM is 2:3.

Post your BIOS settings so everyone can see where your systems at:
Voltages, RAM multiplier, RAM timings and voltage.

I mean the actual timings not speed. I would look up you specific ram and check timings in bios to make sure they match.

Your ram should be 800mhz not 400mhz. should be 2:1.
