-updated BIOS available?
-check hard drive mode and get back to us (ide, ahci, raid)

Also, my GTX 460 1 GB ran Bad Company 2 like garbage on a 3.6 Ghz Q9550, but an i5 760 at 2.8 Ghz gave it wings like a balded flippin' eagle. I hate to say it, but you would have had better luck with a 5870. They play nicer with older cpus.

Also, why 32 bit Windows?
+1 on the hard drive.

I've seen many work computers suffer with a slow hard drive on day-to-day tasks, only to end up dying a sudden death; and your system slowness seems to line up with that. Your Q6600, even at stock, shouldn't crawl when loading up Steam or going through system folders. My girlfriend's desktop and one of my own previous systems also had a Q6600, her's is at stock while mine was overclocked, but neither struggled with basic desktop duties.

Fortunately, newer and faster hard drives are relatively cheap to replace and since you have an older Seagate, chances are you may notice a dramatic difference in speed and responsiveness. Combined with a fresh installation of Windows, and it will feel like a new computer again.

I downloaded SeaTool's off Seagates website and my hard drive has passed all the tests.

Ram usage is fine, 30% used when on the internet.

That ideally would be the solution, but I simply can't. I'm trying to solve this problem without spending any money if there's an easy fix or option I can't see.

I have this memory: http://http://www.newegg.com/Product...82E16820178221 in slot one and slot three with this http://http://www.newegg.com/Product...82E16820211066 in slot two and four. Could that be causing the problem? Can I set all four at the same timings, and if so, what would be the best timings with my Q6600, 560ti, and Intel DP35DP mobo? I can overclock my CPU with setfsb.

Don't mix and match different ram. I would remove the different of your memory to see if that fixes it.

No it is not near obsolete. Shouldn't be posting things like that, you can make someone think their system isn't capable.

For the record, I can play games perfectly fine on most games and sometimes have to turn settings down, though mainly on cpu intensive games.

To say it is obsolete? Wrong...

check my sig for proper tim application methods.

overclock that cpu, i used to dual sli 260's at 3.4ish with not a problem in the world.

edit: core 2 duo still has plenty of life in it. how do you know? well does it max while your anything? lockup?

ram will generally show up at its rated speed, for example, ddr2 ram rated at 800 mhz, either dimm will show up at 400mhz, double those for both and you get 800.

This, I run mine between 3.6-3.9 to be perfectly stable, although I haven't compared against newer cpu's, but I haven't felt I NEED an upgrade. Plus I hit 4Ghz when I got this out the box, I loved this chip from day 1

Really like to know what I'm am missing here.
So how do I go about achieving a 2:1 ratio? And my bios says it's running at 800mhz but CPUID still tells me 400. I've changed my timings to 5-5-5-15 and it's still the same.

It is not his cpu that is the problem as I had a GTX 570 and my Q6600 ran it fine on stock and even better @ 3.6ghz.

But yeah I think your problem is your video card might be bad because if the only things you change are the cpu and vid card. And if you have the Q6600 in there with the 9800 GT which i ran before i got the GTX 570, and running again, your card is either defective or your psu might not be able to handle the load due to age possibly. As I ran my 570GTX fine for 3 months on a Q6600 at stock and oc with none of the lagging issues you are talking about.

IT IS NOT THE CPU PERIOD As I even ran a 460 on a E6550 2.33ghz DC and it ran games ok, but not like the PHII 820 that it was going to push it, which ran it ALOT better.
