Glad you solved your problem. The slower ram was forcing the rest to run at that slower speed. Although in theory it shouldn't have caused a problem, the faster ram had problems at the specific slower timings, causing system instability.

In the future, should you choose to buy a better socket 775 board (look at the for-sale section here and you should be able to find a very capable board for under $50) you will have to reinstall windows AFAIK (as far as i know) or you will likely have issues.

Also, 90% of q6600's can achieve 3.0ghz on 1.35V, your board doesn't support overclocking so it might be stuck at 1.20-1.3V and thus crashing at 2.7Ghz.

On a good board with that cooler, i'd say expect 3.2-3.6GHz but anything higher will need more volts and thus more cooling. Just remember that you're investing in outdated tech, and there's only so far that q6600 can take you.

I never had a problem with hitting above 60% usage on my 570 I use to have with my current processor at 2.8ghz. But i never played a game made after 2007.

=[ sorry to hear. I ran 460 sli with a 4.4 ghz e8500 and saw 100% gpu usage on bad company 2, as well as a few other dx11 games. I was lower than 100% on sc2 tho.

Now I have no reason to care about gpu usage with 3 580s on a 990x

And yet you still upgraded. ;-)

At least you're set for BF3. I'm afraid a single 560 wont be enough for my needs.
