I don't own one, but it seems to me the biggest reasons are to score higher on benchmarks, and to alleviate any cpu-limiting issues for high-end multi-GPU setups. Otherwise, I think that even a stock 2500k is faster than most people need. Then again, "most people" is not really a population easily summarized by the people on OCN.
