Overclocking 955?

Thread Starter
Hey guys. On the stock cooler my CPU idles at 38-40 celcius and hits 50-55 celcius under full load. What is the farthest I could overclock it before I start having temp issues. Also when i decide to upgrade my CPU fan, what would be the absolute best for about $50.

Thanks!
Right now I have mine overclocked to 3.68 at roughly 1.45v on the asus m2n-sli deluxe board (AM2+). Anything higher then that clock seems to be unstable.

My buddy runs his at 4.2 stable 24/7. He is running an h80 I believe.

Hyper 212+ is the best thing under $50, unless you find an H5O on sale. Microcenter sometimes has "refurb" H5O for $49, they are packaged and look like brand new.

Max Temp for Phenom II CPU's is 62 Celsius regardless of voltage.
Max Voltage is 1.55v, beyond that will needs more than Air Cooling.

Cooling wise, go for the CM 212+. You won't be disappointed.

I should have said 55c for 24/7 use.
My P2 X945 has a 212+ on it. I understand all the hype over price, performance.
I could say get either Mugen 3, or 212+ comfortably.
But I would think the Mugen 3 is the slightly better cooler.
He asked for the absolute best at 50$

Here is a thread from here comparing the two.

+1 go for the hyper 212+ it's the best bang for the buck cooler out there. also if you overclock it whilst getting 55C is pushing it a bit... Might be able to squeeze 200mhz out of it or maybe a bit more but watch the temps I'd say the sweet spot is lower than 57C
