The o-rings shorten key travel by a small bit. As a result, regardless of how hard you press the key, it cannot hit the mounting plate when you bottom the key... and if key does not hit the plate, you won't hear a "clank" when key hits the bottom of its travel.
That alone makes the mod worth it in my opinion - all I hear is the sweet audio rhythm of clicking blues. I pulled the dampener off one key just to hear the difference - and it was truly night & day. The "clank" was significantly louder than the "click" - lol.
The difference in feel - at least for me - comes from a softer "bottoming". Hitting the dampener has a much softer feel. Hitting the plate feels just as harsh as it sounds. It might just be my mind thinking a softer sound means softer feel. Regardless, I feel/think the dampeners are a great mod.
EDIT: I had my mechanical details wrong - when the key bottoms without a dampener, its hitting the top of switch & not the plate. The collision produces the same type of "clank" sound, regardless. I wanted to get that detail corrected.Edited by amgsport - 8/18/11 at 11:01am
