Driver noob, what do I need?

Hello,

Buying my first build tomorrow, build in my sig, and my question is....what the hell do I do after I build it? This is my very first build ever and I'm not sure what components need drivers, like the keyboard? If someone could just make a rundown as to what components will need a driver, it would help me a lot. I assume I just get them off the manufacturers website. If not where? This is about the 3rd time I've come for help here about my first build, and I just want to thank everyone again for being so helpful these past few weeks and putting up with my noobish questions.

Well install windows, that should take care of most of the drivers, then you can look into device manager and see which devices still need drivers. From then a simple google search should give you good results. Good luck!

Honestly, last time I did a fresh install I didn't have to install one driver. After I do all of windows updates, I go to device manager and right click on everything and let it auto search for new drivers then let it install. It worked great with me and actually fixed problems I was having with my 6850 by not putting in the disc with the drivers on it. You should be fine.

I 've just built my first rig and while windows did find most drivers for me it was also necessary for me to install a few drivers from the disk that came with my mobo. Most importantly my ethernet driver! Drivers for my chipset were also on this disk. Once I had these things installed I then connected to the internet and found the most current drivers for my video card. I must admit then to spending a lot of time checking if all the different drivers i had installed were "up to date".(Waste of time) I have a computer science friend who then told me that the only drivers i needed to keep an eye on were the video drivers. As for keyboard or other perhipherial (sp) devices..... windows will probably do the trick however depending on the device you may want to install drivers and software from manufacturer's site. Good luck and enjoy your build. Take your time and expect a hiccup or two..... part of the fun!!!!
