6970 Idle temps

Thread Starter
i have a 30-34 ambiant temp, my case is a CM 690, the bottom/front/side fans are intake so it gives a nice breeze on the 6970.
The card is at stock setting.
I use CCC fan control on auto.

my Idle temp after 15min of web browsing are between 50-55C.
my load temp never goes passed 80C, when i play, the fan goes up in speed and it never get higher then that.

I have no good TIM to replace the stock one.

i use a H70 push/pull with 2x fan on top of the case that push the air out.

So as long as my load temp stays under 80c should i bother with the idle temp, can it degrad the card or something? i dont use the PC 24/7

oh and i also have 2 monitors.

thks in advance

no problem with 80c.

My card was low 50's too, now it idles (browsing) mid high 40's.. I added a side fan that took 4-5c off of the card.

I have the lightning and was concerned about 84c. I called MSI tech support and they said 100c is the max.

I believe you are fine and those temps are not terrible for that card. I would not replace the TIM until you feel it is old enough to become an issue. Factory TIM is pretty good on these newer cards. Max temp is somewhere around 110C so you are well below.

My 6970 idle's at 30-34c, But my room temp is never higher the 70f or 21c. With the fan set at 36% 925/1375 running eyefinity, I have never seen more then 62c.

Sounds right to me. However my bottom GPU is ref with temp 43'C since I have 3 Tri-Fans setup.... Horizontal, diagonal and vertical stacked up on the front. A lot of fresh air for my GPUs. to keep idle at 40-50'C range room temp 27-30'C

Those temps seem normal

I wouldn't touch the thermal paste. I did that on my XFX 6970 and all it did was make things worse. Plus, the thermal pads on the vram and memory is pretty flimsy and will fall apart after 1-2 removals of the heatsink
