Windows video streaming issue?

Thread Starter
Greetings fellas!
I have this strange issue with my windows computers. Whenever I play a youtube video, it loads up and then starts to buffer for a good couple of seconds. My old AMD rig did the same too for stuff like youtube. My house internet speed is only 1.5Mbps so this might be a problem. This doesn't happen when I'm at college and using the 80Mbps internet speed.

Why do I think this is a windows issue?
This stop then buffer doesn't happen with my macbook pro. When I installed OSX on my current rig, this video issue doesn't come up either. Does anyone have a similar experience or know how to fix this?

It could be an issue with the current version of flash.

What I can tell your for sure is that Flash is much better on Windows, and 1.5Mbps is slow for Youtube videos.

Also, what browser are you using?

Post what browser you're using.

Also, like above poster said, 1.5Mbps is quite slow for Youtube (and in general now a days). It probably doesn't have much to do with your computer.

That's really interesting. There's nothing in your system that would be "holding" Youtube back. Are your LAN drivers up to date? Do you have other programs running that use bandwidth while you're on Youtube? With 1.5Mbps, you'll want to make sure that you're conserving as much bandwidth as possible.

Also, if you're on a residential cable network, they tend to get slower under load (i.e. when a lot of people are on them, like in the evenings). Have you tried testing both at the same time of day?

Strange right?

I noticed that I was using chrome on the windows machine --sorry just built not so long ago and went on vacation--. I installed firefox and flash and it works fine with no buffer on 360p. It is still choppy in 480p and the macbook pro can do fine with 480p video. I just tested this.

Yeah I know. I just wanted to mention the difference of what I can get from the same hardware with different operating systems. I'm not going to discuss on how to install it or trouble shoot with OSX of course.

The crappy streaming is with windows.
