School Starting Up, Help Me Find A Laptop

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a nice long term laptop that I can take with me to school. I really don't care for the weight or size of it as long as it's modern and holds a decent charge to have it off AC for 1hr. long classes.

I do prefer for it to be intel and have a strong nice video card since I still want to game at decent settings. Games that will be played are Gears of War, GTA IV, BFBC2, Crysis 2, Batman: AA, and some other mid range titles.

It will also be used for CAD stuff like Inventor, Revit, Cinema4D, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop. So memory should be around 8GB.

HDD space can be 500GB honestly. Haven't even filled my RAID'ed F3's past 300GB in since Febuary.

Now, my budget will be around $1000-$1500 depending on how my sig rig sells. Please and thank you

You want a performance laptop. You can find many, many models that will appeal to you, it comes down a lot your tastes. If you only need to hold a charge for a couple hours then the world is your oyster so to speak.

This is one of many laptops you might consider:

And this is another

I would go with this though instead:

I'm really not fond of Alienware just because its too flashy. I don't want to impress, I want to get through my work with quickly.

Then get the HP, or the Asus, or something else. What you really want is a good mobile GPU and a corei7 mobile quad with 8gb or more of memory.

Asus G series or the HP Envy 17... Both come with performance-tier mobile graphics and Core i7 CPUs.

In case of the HP, you can get an extended battery that'll boost it's usage to something like 7 hours which is stupid long for a big desktop replacement.

I have kinda similar requirements in the laptop that I'm looking for, and here is what I'm looking at getting now a Sager NP5165

OP: If you have no intention of a laptop that you will take with you to classes without an outlet then the ASUS G53 or the Sager are what to look at. Just remember that the GTX560m is about comparable to the 450/550 in desktop level cards so don't expect too much out of it.
