So I'm really confused about what to get right now, I think I'm leaning towards the AV-40's followed by the Swan M10's. Good choice? Thanks for the help so far

Alright, I have the swan m10s (and has researched extensively before on budget speakers). M40s won't work for you. From what I gather your probably a bass head, and monitor/bookshelf speakers won't work. A custom speaker setup would give you the most for your money, but they often take up alot of space and it's not as user friendly as a presetup 2.1.

Now, about swans. They have good bass. Good as in its tight, controlled, and has a good "thump". But understand that the swans has a midwoofer, not a subwoofer. That means it will not be a heavy, boomy bass that will shake anything (as most dubstep/rap fans would want). It's a more refined bass. With that said, if you still want the swans (they are sexy), go for them. However if you want bass I would recommend that you get a pair of promedia 2.1s. Promedia will give you good bass along with good medium and highs (unlike the z2300).

Thanks for the description, I ended up ordering the Promedias.
