Prime 95, 12 hours on load. - Page 4

Op,my chip does 4.2 at 1.375 and I have a push/pull h50.I stay just under 70 running prime 95.

It looks like you're 750 is a lot like mine.I see no reason why you can't get 4.2 or 4.3 out of it safely.

I like to run as many and as varied tests as I can be bothered to do, including OCCT (P95), Linpack, Memtest and IBT. However mostly I like to run BOINC (folding) for a few days and have a few gaming sessions (not at the same time).

That is what I use my computer for anyway, and is, in my opinion, the best test of stability. Does it do what you want it to without problems? Yes? Then it is stable.

That is not necessarily true at all. Linpack is great for ballpark stress testing while you are overclocking but Prime is very customizable and certain tests are actually much better for determining 100% stability. On my e8400, q9650, and i5 2500k I have had prime show errors in one test or another where Linpack wouldn't show any errors.

That said, I never had that happen with my i7 860 or i5 760. I would use long Linpack runs to stress test 1155 cpus like the op has.

:
Until you are *****ing in the forums that XXXXX software is a piece of junk. On the odd occasion that I do see a game crash to desktop I like to be 100% sure that the cause is not my overclock. Mildly unstable clocks can cause data corruption that will cause problems that don't go away when you reset your cpu to default speeds.

There is quite a few post's in my thread that claim the exact thing that twocables is saying.

Many have passed XX amount of runs in IBT with AVX and have failed within a few minutes of standard prime blend, forget even doing a custom with 95% of your free RAM.

Another instance is that a member was folding on his rig for a few days and all was fine until he ran a prime blend, again a standard prime blend, it failed within a few minutes.

All I have to say on the matter is IBT/LinX with AVX is crap for sandybridge and prime95 blend test, whether it be standard or custom, it is much superior to the avx instructions that many stress testing softwares adopt.

Proof?? go through the sandy stable club. Those are imho credible sources!

EDIT:

Actually he was folding for two weeks lol

Yes, prime blend is very good for sandy bridge. I'm one of those people that ran Linpack with AVX for a few hours thinking that my overclock was stable until I read a post that prime blend is the way to go for sandy bridge. I figured "*** I'll give it a shot". Now this is a test where the cores ran at least 10c cooler than Linpack and almost two hours in it I had an error on a thread.

With my e8400 on more than one occasion I passed Linpack and long runs at that only to fail Prime small ffts about 45 minutes in. I fixed that by adjusting cpugtl. I had that happen on more than one occasion since I ran that chip on a few motherboards.

With my Q9650 when I installed four 2GB 1066 dimms on my P5Q Deluxe I had a bastard of a time getting that stable. I finally got my overclock Linpack stable but something was off. I then saw a post on XS about using Large fft values in the custom tab with "run ffts in place" unchecked and all of your available ram set to use. I tried that and BAM, BSOD in minutes. I used that test to get my oc stable since its great for the memory controller. That test got the northbridge and memory much hotter than Linpack ever did.

Prime has its uses.
