$1500 everything challenge

Thread Starter
Simple enough, I want a solid, future proof, and future upgradeable (meaning if I sli or X-fire I wont have to buy a new psu) computer. I need everything! monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS-- the works.

Is it possible without sacrificing too much quality and future-proofing?

thanks for the help.

theres no such thing as future proof, cause while im typing this reply another hardware/software is being developed to outdo the existing one

alright, how about something that'll serve me well for 2-3 years?

What size screen are you looking for? I'd say a corsair 850, gtx 580, 2500k core i5 + 8th ripsaws x ssd and wd black or samsung 1 or 2 tb f series.. Win 7 pro

Rough idea of the build.. What kind of cooling would you like? D14 or h70/h100 to oc that 2500k 4.5-4.9 based on chip...

I like your rough idea, but I have trouble thinking we'll be able to fit everything into $1500 at that point. Think I need better cooling than a Hyper 212 Plus? I ask this community because this is easily the best forum I've seen on this, and I am brand spanking new to the building world.

Thanks for the help!

1500.. going to be a bit tight I tried and failed especially if you want SLI/xFire able in furture parts mobo and psu are going to cost more. My sig rig came out to be 2k and with my mouse + keyboard + speakers went up to like 2400-2500 ish.

Doesn't exist, and I stopped reading there.

However.

Here's a decent guide to help you if you want something to last a couple of years:

Best of luck, OP. I realize my opening statement may seem harsh. It wasn't intended to be.

My Rig was had for ~$1500 a little over 2 full years ago. I haven't changed anything on it. So yes, it can easily be done. If you're a university student, then you can pick up an OS for real cheap as well (my school sells Win7 Pro x64 for $10 for example).

What are you looking to do?
If it's encoding or any heavy "work" you'll never be future proof or close to it as encode times and quality can always increase.

If it's for gaming, then an i5 2500K and a motherboard with two SLI'd 550Ti's and a cheap kit of 4-16GB RAM should give you decent performance for that long.
