[Kotaku] Blizzard Is ‘Very, Very Serious’ About Diablo for Consoles - Page 5

They made it so that ORBS of health and mana would drop when you kill monsters. They say that it's to keep you immersed in the gameplay, but now we see the true reason...to make it easier on the console players.

Conspiracy Theorists abound in this thread.

Blizzard is a PC game company. They will never, ever design a game around playability on a console.

Diablo 2 is my favorite game of all time. We'll see about that when the game's actually released and we can try it out for ourselves. However, at the current time with all these news of dumbed down gameplay and the impending console "port", I'm really, really worried.

so much for buying D3.

I thought the game would be intricate and require finesse, bring on the facerollers !

edit: it's almost like trying to port WoW to console; can you imagine the hilarity.

Honestly, no diablo game required finesse.....its point, click, repeat....if you specced and equiped your character correctly, no finesse was ever involved.

Final fantasy has many more than six, and it's on the consoles. Your logic is neither sound, nor valid.
The multiplayer aspect has nothing to do with my comment. I was talking about game mechanics. The combat is an enemy beats on you and you suck down a health potion to live through its beating untill it is dead from you clicking on it. Without potions...you are are going to be forced to spec for healing magic unless health regen is THAT fast.

And FF games had lots of abilities, but where all listed under the headings of:
Attack
Magic
Item
Special
Summon

You select one of the above and then scroll to your specific ability. So one could say that FF games only had about five or six abilities...depending on the game. Now here they are mapping one button to one selected skill...not a menu of skills so they have to limit the amount of readily available skills to how many buttons are on a controller.

I don't see how being able to spam potions makes the game any harder for PC players...

Potion Spam was a tactic used in D1 and D2....not a feature.

Changes in game design simply require a change in tactics. Get more armor, health, or kill from range.

People are bemoaning the changes before they ever get to see them in action. Give it a chance before bashing it.

The new Dungeon Siege III has the same mechanics with the dropped health and mana. A lot of people complained about the simplification of the game play. Some people complained of "consolitis."

It remains to be seen how D3 will be like in the final release.

I am all in favor for thei idea only if they make it possible to interconnect PC-s with consoles as stated before in this thread just to pwn consolists and hear their whining about limited controllability and lousy game mechanics. Am not a console hater nor anything like that, but it is very hard to imagine competitive gameplay with downgraded functionality.
