Hyper 212+ crooked

Thread Starter
I have already reseated the heatsink once trying to fix this. I dont know if it affects temps all that much cause im still idling in the upper 30's (havent stressed it yet still working on the build) Its not super crooked maybe by a couple degrees i think its the screw in holder thingey thats making it crooked and i dont know why. I havent fussed with it a lot but just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and if you think it will affect temps?

If by "crooked" do you mean it's a bit turned to a side and not perfectly parallel to the case walls - that's OK. Two things are important: the base of the cooler must cover all the surface of the CPU and the base of the cooler must have a strong and even press on the CPU. These two things can be checked by removing the cooler and see the thermal paste imprint - it shows where/how the CPU and the HSF have made contact. If unsure post on OCN a pic of the imprint on the CPU & heatsink for us to take a look.

mabey it is that Pin that keeps the top X frame from turning.
I had to make sure that pin was lined up and didnt get in the way when i installed one here.
so there was 2 things, seating the center pin, and making sure the turn pin was where it is supposed to go.

yeah its not exactly parallel but only a little bit (i would load pics but i have an old camera phone and i cant seem to get it to work with my comp) but when i removed it the first time to reseat it it had a nice imprint on the cpu and a nice square on the heatsink so yeah im pretty sure its covered. just wanted to make sure i think its stupid that the bracket is the thing thats making it crooked biggrin.gif

yeah the second time i made sure the pin was in correctly but it might have gotten out of wack when i started screwing it in idk. Its so much work to remove my mb and everything attached to it just to make sure the heatsink is straight lol

Due to how you mount it, it doesn't go on straight. It will be slightly be off, but this is normal. As mentioned earlier, as long as your cooler is properly mounted with even pressure, it should be fine.

sweet okay, guess for $30 bucks you cant expect coolmaster to give you a mounting bracket that keeps the heatsink straight. Thanks guys for the quick replies

It's not supposed to go on straight is what I'm saying. It's still the best heatsink in the $35 and below price range, so you'll be a happy overclocker regardless. thumb.gif
