Will that RAM run on my motherboard?

Hi guys!

I have had to take 4GB of RAM out of my PC for my dad to use so i am thinking would it be possible to run this RAM (8GB Mushkin Silverline (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz) on an AM2+ board (ASUS Crosshair II) with a Phenom 965? The max RAM speed on my motherboard is 1066MHz but cant the speed be underclocked so it will run?

That ram is ddr3 and the motherboard only supports ddr2.

The Phenom II 965 supports both ddr3 and ddr2, but the motherbaord needs to aswell.

So no, it won't work.

Unless you have a Crosshair II that i'm not seeing, they will only support DDR2. Sure you could buy DDR2 that is higher than 1066, but good lucking finding it :-\\ A good set of DDR2 1066 generally clocks very well and shouldn't limit a CPU o/c.

Thanks for the quick replys!

I'm not looking to overclock the RAM for faster speeds, if i bought that RAM it would have to be underclocked to 1066MHz or 800MHz. Is the RAM classed as AM3 because it runs faster than 1066 AM2 speeds?

The only thing is AM3 ram is cheaper than AM2.

There is no such thing as "AM3 or AM2" Ram, its DDR2 or DDR3, DDR3 will not physically fit or work in a DDR2 board, so you absolutely need DDR2. I would recommend just buying a decent set of DDR2 1066 or 800mhz memory, both will be fine and clock fine with your motherboard. Of course, if you're trying to squeeze the most performance out of it, go for the 1066, otherwise just stick with some 800mhz as its generally cheaper.

Ok thanks for the help, looks like i will have to find some DDR2 RAM

Also as long as its ddr2 it should work, your mobo will downclock it by default. Like my RAM is 2000mhz But unless overclocked it runs at 1600mhz on my 1366 mobo.

Ps. some 1066 will be fine,
