I think something is wrong with the new upgrade.

Hi,

I just got the i5 2500k and asus p8p67 pro Rev3.1. I installed them and updated all drivers and Bios. There are several things i notice:

-I use auto tuning for OC and get a 4.7Ghz with air cool. I uses a Thermaltake Q spin series heat-sink. at idle the temp is around 24'C. However, when i do a stress test with prime i the temperature get to 85'C (I dont get this when i OC my old 6600 (75'C Max)).

-Is that when ever I press try to boot up the system it shutdown about 2 seconds after i hit the power button then reboot itself and it running fine.

-my PC performance is not as I expected, I don't see improvement even with this 2500K. For example, back when I have the Q6600 (3 GHz), I get roughly 40-90 fps in Haven Benchmark. Now, with the 2500K I get 10 fps less.

What is wrong with my new upgrades?

1. You're using auto tune, expect it to be higher temps, it doesn't exactly go for the lowest chip voltage, try to do a manual overclock, I'm sure you'll get lower temps.
1a. The cooler you're using isn't that great, maybe think of upgrading to something with a push/pull config.
1b. Remember that your new CPU is running at 4.7ghz, not 3.0 - Q6600 probably didn't need a voltage bump to hit 3ghz, if it did it was a very small one, @ 4.7ghz your chip probably needed quite a bit of voltage bump (i.e. 1.45v)
1c. Under load, 85c is fine for normal usage, I personally prefer 80c and below, but if you're simply hitting 85c while stress testing there isn't anything to worry about.

2. That's normal for SB boards to do, it goes through a check, and then re-powers, i've had it happen with all my various SB motherboards

3. Not sure about your performance, though if you're using the same GPU performance should be similar to your old setup (as a Q6600 isn't bottlenecking a 570) - also make sure that you're using the same settings (i.e. resolution, tesselation, etc.) possibly compare it to some benchmarks on review websites, it should be + or - 10% or so.

Than it is unstable or false cause 4,7GHz at this voltage is impossible.

Idle vcore is useless on SB as it dynamically changes to conserve energy and heat (aka, down-clocking) Load it up with Prime95 and check in CPU-Z and report back, again, i'd imagine it's in the 1.45v - 1.5v range.

Just go into advanced bios, AI tweaker. And go down to where core voltage is at. You may also have to set it to manual to see it.

I have a feeling the auto overclock, set PLL to extreme and has a very high vcore, couple that with a bad cooler and you are going to have very high temps.
I suggest you manually overclock, to about 4.2-4.4GHz, with a much lower vcore. This will help with the temps.

Sorry man, I should have said what's your vcore under load? That's what's really important. Those auto overclock tools almost always use way more vcore than what is necessary and add on top of that the fact that your cpu cooler isn't that great, leads to real high temps.
