Crossfire help

Thread Starter
I currently am running a diamond hd radeon 6950 1gb card, i was really hoping to get a msi twin frozr to crossfire with.

I have my eye on the twin frozr iii 6950 2gb card, i was curious how it would run in tandem with my 1gb card, would it bottle neck because of the lower performance?

any suggestions to make it work or a different pairing with my card?

2GB + 1GB = 1GB total usable. You will feel the bottleneck on heaviest games, or eyefinity resolutions. Ditch the 1GB, get 2x2GB

Or stay with 1 GB card. Otherwise the 2 GB card will be a waste. So basically, ditch 1 GB card and get two 2 GB. Or get another 1 GB and crossfire.

The crossfire with the 6950 would work, but the twin would run at the 1gb of the diamond card. If you can get the twin for cheaper than an ordinary 6950 for crossfire then go for it.

But otherwise try to get another 1gb 6950.. save your money!

Also on a side note it is not advised to try to upgrade the 1Gb 6950 to a 2gb 6950. very small performance boost. If you ever thought of going that route.

Significant if you are going to upgrade to eyeinfinity or one high resolution (think beyond 1080p) in the future.

Crysis 1 with hi-res pack is unplayable on less than 1.5Gb on normal resolution. What is to say about Eyefinity.

If you play on 1920x1080 or less, 1Gb might be enough to max current games and run future on medium. For anything higher or eyefinity or AA, 2Gb is a must.
