Do you need an internet connection to open up an offline version of Microsoft Word? As soon as you lose internet connection, Word closes and you cannot finish typing that report.

You are so right, it is a big deal. How forward thinking and insightful to see it from someone else's perspective. Truly you are a king among men, your ability to empathize with those less fortunate than you is astounding. Those who may want to play a game while in the middle of a field, or on a plane. Those with unreliable internet connections, or hell even those who have no access to internet at all. You are an example to us all. We should all strive to be as selfless as you, maybe then the world would be a better place.

Yep, we're apparently still riding this wagon. Unlike some I live in the year 2011, where we have cable/dsl that doesn't require you to dial up every time you want to browse the web. Some of you should really look into purchasing a time machine, they're pretty boss!
You're so privileged aren't you? Maybe some people can't afford cable/dsl. Maybe some people can't be connected to the internet all the time.

Why don't you think of how something could affect others instead of just thinking how it affects you?

+rep to Steam, and I stopped buying Ubisoft products a long time ago due to crappy DRM and shoddy games like Far Cry 2.

And -rep to you (if I could). Unfortunately not everyone has this opportunity, even in the year 2011. One of my laptops has a wifi receiver that is starting to go bad, so it loses internet connection for minutes at a time. Maybe I should pay $100 to fix it so I can play a single player game? Nope. Maybe I should string an 80 ft. cord across my house to get wired internet to it so I can play a single player game? Nope. Maybe you should realize not every computer has internet access at all times? Yes please.

I work hard for my money and spend it how I please. I understand the whole world isn't privileged with cable or dsl. I think you; however, completely missed my point. I sign on to OCN (A forum about overclocking computers that requires an internet connection AT ALL TIMES!) and I see people whining that a game requires you to be connected to the internet, at all times.

Wi-fi, it's widely used in the year 2011 and my old ISP sucked so I got booted out of splinter cell: conviction enough that I played through about half an hour of the game and quit.

Sure I could get around the overly aggressive DRM by pirating the game but why should I have to if I've already paid for it?
Oh and what about the people with laptops that might want to play on the move when they don't have access to the internet?
Personally I like to think that when I've bought a licence to play a game on my PC I've bought a licence to play the game on my PC wherever I want.

Edit: And fair play to steam or Ubi, whoever's footing the bill for refunding people's money.

But do I get kicked off OCN if my internet connection is unreliable? It's a hell of a lot less inconvenient when something goes wrong and OCN didn't cripple my browsing experience on purpose.

Clearly someone has had it easy all their life.
There are some people that come to OCN on dial up, because that's all they can get in their area. Not everyone lives in a huge city that is able to get quality Internet.

So they end up having two options, pay up the yoohoo for Satellite Internet or dial up.
Let's not be ignorant.
