Overclock Core i7 970 with the following..

Thread Starter
I will be using the following to attempt to overclock my CPU to 4.0ghz stable ( Hopefully):

Mobo: Gigabyte G1.Sniper

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 (Push/Pull) (Will use mine for exhaust)
- Added two fans are Cooler Master Excalibur 120mm PWM Case Fan

Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT Super Gaming Modular Tower Case Hot-Swappable HDD 24CM Radiator Water Cooling Ready Three 200mm Fans Included VN10001W2N
-will add another Cooler Master Excalibur on the bottom for intake

Plus if this matters, I will be using Kingston Cooling Fan for HyperX PC Memory KHX-FAN to cool off some DDR3 Kingston Hyper X T1 - 1600 x2 3 triple channel memory ( 24GB ram).

With this particular setup will I be able to OC the i970 to 4.0ghz stable or even a little higher?

Also the Diagram that I provided I am using as a reference from another guys post of push/pull H100 setup, except my plan is to have the Excalibur fans pushing air out on the top and the corsair fans will be at the bottom . ( <---- thought that was funny) Will this be exceptionable?

Off topic but holy crap! that's my old system down there!!!

I think you should be able to get 4+ GHz easily with that chip.
I would put the CM excaliber fans on push duty instead of pull. Also, it would be better to have 4 of the same fans on the h100 rad.

Lets do i then, but I need to say that I have two 200mm fans pushing air into my case and only one exhaust fan atm which is the 140mm fan at the back of the case.

So I have 1 200mm side fan and another 200mm fan on the front blow on the hard drives.

But yeah I was kinda thinking I should do that anyways. ( The Excalibur fans)

In that case, I would probably have the h100 fans set up as exhaust. It shouldn't make that much of a difference in your water temps, as there will be plenty of fresh cool air coming into your case.

It also makes sence to have the top fans set as exhaust as hot air rises, so haveing them set to intake fights the natural thermal flow.

Excellent, exhaust it is.

Hey so, I was wondering if I should keep the stock thermal paste on my H100 or should I put some aftermarket stuff on it? I heard the h100 was supposed to be good anyways. Just want to know if that is a good idea

I would expect at least 4GHz out of such a setup, but more than that is going to depend on the CPU itself more than anything. There are some really good 970s and some really bad ones.

Not sure I would have the radiator as an exhaust though; thermal convection means really little with active cooling.

With my case it seems better for the exhaust because I got some 200mm fans , 1 on the side panel and one on the front panel pushing air in. On top of that I will install another Excalibur on the Bottom of the case as another intake fan. Im not sure if one 140mm Exhaust will do the job for my Level 10 GT because it is a big giant full Tower
