Not sure what card to replace my GTX 465 with. Any suggestions?

Thread Starter
I currently have a GTX 465 and I'm not overclocking anything. I get random lock-ups and I have done some research and I see that a bunch of people have random lock ups with this series of card (or at least I was lead to believe that from the posts I found when googling).

SO, I am going to be upgrading to an i5 rig from my current Core 2 Quad setup and I was thinking about a) keeping this card and seeing if the crashes stop with new hardware (mobo, ram, cpu), and b) upgrading the video card just because.

I guess I have 2 questions. 1) what would be a comparable ATI card, and 2) would you guys suggest switching from Geforce cards (which I've always used) to ATI.

My budget for the card is definitely less than 200 bucks. Here are the parts I'm looking at upgrading to:

You can get a 6870 or a GTX560 (non Ti) for under $200.
They're not big upgrades, though.

The AMD equivalent of the GTX465 would be roughly the HD6850.

Yeah, I'm thinking about just trying (hoping) that this card likes the new mobo better... This is an older motherboard, and I don't think it was designed for Windows 7 (P5n32-sli premium), so I might just stick with this card and keep my fingers crossed.

First off, the parts you listed are great  Also, I wouldn't go from Nvidia to ATI; I thought about it, but no.

A good, worthwhile upgrade to the 465 would be a GTX580 if you can afford it. If you can't then a 570 is also great! If you really want the most bang for your buck though, I'd go with a 6950 2GB that unlocks. It is an ATI card, but it's a beast.

If I where in your boat. I would get a 2 bg 6950...whait I am in your boat and I am getting a 6950?!?!

I'm upgrading my SSC 460GTX(700mb). I settled on 6950's and will later xfire them. Why?
I always think of it like this, if money is an issue, get for AMD CPU's and ATI/AMD GPU's. More bang for buck period!
If money is not a problem then drop the $$ and go intel/Nvidia. Personaly i think you'll get more for you buck with ATI in that price range.

I would recommend going with an AMD card. I recently switch to Nvidia, and the image quality is much worse.

I'd get the NVIDIA, higher quality over AMD.

You could get 2 GTX 460s SLI and it would beat any $300 solution.
