Built new PC and im having trouble with random restarts

Thread Starter
First off hello im a new member and this is my 1st post. I just built myself a gaming tower and everything runs pretty well but once in awhile mainly when im watching youtube videos the computer will randomly restart. It happens during games also but not quite as much. I will post my system specs below and if anyone has any insight to what the problem is it would be greatly appreciated. Just a side note I have already checked to make sure the heat sink is properly seated... The only thing I can think is that my power supply is off somehow or that the stock intel heatsink just isn't enough for the i7.

SPECS:
MoBo:ASUS P6X58D-E LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel

CPU:Intel core i7-960 quad 3.2ghz 130w

Power Supply:Rosewill Xtreme Series RX750-S-B 750W Continuous @40°C ,80 PLUS Certified, ATX12V v2.2 & EPS12V v2.91, SLI Ready

RAM:CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

I wont bother posting my video card b/c i have tried 3 different ones with the same result.

Welcome to Overclock.Net! It sounds like you might have a hardware issue like bad ram. Have you tried running with just one stick or ram? You could speed the troubleshooting up by running Memtest86 on the ram. The test should be in the downloads section of the forum.

edit:

Are you overclocked?

what are your temps? your processor could be overheating.

Do Memtest for about a hour or two.

Try a different PSU. It could be you got a bad one.

no overclocking b/c it isn't stable yet, i have ran with only one stick of ram and done memtest on both and nothing seems to be off.

CPU says 40c everything else is below that i'll try another psu also i have ran memtest from widows and it ends fairly quick... is there a way to extend the testing?

Hmm if it ends quickly, are you sure it's not showing an error?

Hold on guys , lets not knock his hardware yet... he just got his baby up and running and I don't think he would want to RMA so soon.

So a new build will Intel that you recently installed windows which could be the issue there , as in windows updates make your computer restart.

Or if you have no updated any drivers for your Motherboard say if you are using the onboard sound or onboard Video. Make sure everything is up to date so you can kick some ass.

Also make sure you update your BIOS too, honestly it could be a lot of things that do it, lets just hope its not the ram.

Not saying that it is not hardware related either

now my cpu temp has shot up to 54c i think i need a better heatsink and thermal paste maybe? im assuming that is too hot. i am still updating my bios and drivers but i think this might be my main problem. I use speedfan to check temps and every once in awhile it shoots way up.
