Do you think the upgrade is worth it?

Thread Starter
I currently have this processor overclocked to 3.45

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103871

assuming i can sell it for $50.00 and upgrade to this for $115.00

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727

do you guys think the performance bump is worth $75.00??

i don't know too much about performance when it comes to amd processors.

They are not low performance but not high either.

Your board's VRM+MOSFETs are naked. I don't think it's good for 6 cores and I dont recommend overclocking if you get a x4 BE chip. Even if biostar claim it can support it. If your mobo has still warranty and if you put a fan to those cpu VRM area, you might pull it off.

However we must be clear. If you can afford, even a cheap i3-2100 + p67 board will kill any amd in "gaming". If you also use multi-threaded applications/encoding, then a x6 chip would make sense.

lol, I undrstand your are just wanting to swap out CPU's, not wanting to do the mobo/cpu dance. I would say yes it would be an upgrade, but I would go a lil bit more to a 6 core. But it all comes down to your budget, do what you can afford. Or wait and save. Your current mobo will support a
6x, so it really just depends and where you want to be and can afford.

Not worth it mate.

If you want a performance increase save your $75 and put it towards an SSD.

Will give you super fast load-up times...and for all the money I have spent over the years it has been the most noticeable performance increase for me in upgrading a single component

Big lol then.

If you can afford i5-2500K + Asus P8P67 EVO B3. Then you can not justify any AMD chip at all. Because you will feel the same GAP from both x6,x4 or x2 to i5-2500k.
