What should I be looking for?
One thing I would try, if none of this has solved your problem, is to delete that folder and then have Steam verify the files and re-download that .ini file. Just in case it could have been something messed up there, you can get a fresh file. That's what I'd try.

I second what Infrasonic is suggesting. Uninstalling oblivion always leaves the ini file in My Documents for me. A reinstall usually crashes instantly. So yeah what he said.

Sounds to me like an HDR or Bloom issue, but you can alter these to try and make more suitable to your needs.

"BlurShaderHDRInterior

BlurShaderHDR

BlurShader

The above sections in the .ini file relate to HDR lighting effect parameters (the first two being interior and exterior HDR lighting), and the third being Bloom lighting parameters. You can alter these values in an attempt to make the lighting effects better suit your tastes. For example, some people suggest that using the following settings for the Bloom (BlurShader) lighting makes it look more 'HDR-like' without the same performance impact as real HDR:

fSkyBrightness=0.7000

fAlphaAddInterior=0.8500

fBlurRadius=0.0600

iNumBlurpasses=3

iBlendType=2"

I found on tweakguides.com/oblivion I used to roam around that website and tweak settings using that guide. But look around that web site it will help tweak other things as well and maybe solve your problem. Just remember your original values of what you changed just incase you have issues. I would recommend copy and save it to a word doc. and put in the desktop labeled for reference incase of issues.

Hmm... Even after patching with the unofficial patch, and deleting the folder with the .ini file, it's still the same...

Thanks, I don't know if I'll try that, but thanks. I mean, I shouldn't be messing around with such stuff, it should just work fine straight of the box...

Maybe I'll just ask Steam for a refund, I'll have to think about this...

mmmk
you can change whatever the values are its really not going affect anything serious. All your doing with HDR nhumbers is making things lighter or darker...thats it.
just save whatever changes you made then save.

In that same file you can make the days longer by going into a whole number then save changes to that ini. file then start the game.

Just trying to help ; )

good luck.

Yes I know, and I'm really grateful for the help.

It's just that, it's not your fault obviously, but I don't feel like messing around with the numbers, wasting time doing trial and error attempts, when I paid for it and it simply should just work. Not this BS...

Well Kaiz, unfortunately, you will not be able to get a refund from Steam. Whatever it is that is messing it up should be a fairly easy fix. I would try maybe a total uninstall and re-download it again. If that doesn't fix it, then attempt to try changing some of the values that were recommended. See how it looks without any mods installed. Never can tell what will mess up a game.

Dude one problem might be related to your shadows setting. It really looks like you've got shadows completely turned off. Have you gone into the advanced settings and made sure everything was completely cranked up to max (shadows in particular)? If not, do that for sure. Don't rely on a preset for image quality.
