New GPU wu's - Page 5

so these new GPU wu's put less of a strain on the cpu? and in turn give higher ppd?

hmm i may have to upgrade to the latest nvidia drivers then.

still using 266.66 here.

Yeah the Wus are great, my 570 went from 14000 PPD to 17000PPD 850mhzcore 49cº, temps are the same but my power consumption rised from 550w to 640w folding with gtx 295 and 570.

i don't foresee a power issue, 950 watt psu for 2x 580's and the 2600k, no issue there.

but an increase in ppd and less strain on the cpu is good.

So far I am very happy with how the new work-units are working out. I would love it if I could run multiple Gpu clients at the same time and not have it slow down my CPU at all.

just out of curiosity why is it slowing down your cpu? mind you i haven't studied folding at all so maybe it's a basic reason i don't know about.

My PPD on the cpu jumped about 10,000 and about 1-2k on the gpu. On my 460 HAWK the ppd actually drops slightly but it is worth it because of the huge increase on the cpu. I think the temps are higher because the GPU is doing the work that it would do before in addition to most or all of the work that the cpu would have done.

Each instance of a gpu client hogs a little bit of cpu power, thus reducing the cpu smp client ppd.

While running my cpu client only, It does about 16k ppd. Then with two gpus doing the old work units it does around 12.5k

Now with the new work units my cpu does 15.5k ppd

Ppd output of the gpus also increased with these new work units. About a 1k increase per gpu.

i see, i wonder why your cpu ppd is so much lower than mine, you have a 2500k that's overclocked to about what my 2600k is but my 2600k solo gets a few more ppd than yours, with me running 2x 580's i still get 17-19k ppd on an SMP, even though i don't want smp, seems to be a -bigadv shortage lately.

That would be because of hyperthreading. The 2600k has hyperthreading and the 2500k does not. You would be surprised at how much extra performance HT actually gives you in folding.

Looks like I've lost 2 of these already, bumped up the voltage to see if that will help.

I have had one 7621 fail on each of my cards so far. New units probably stress the GPU more which makes sense.
