We're not in a tizzy, we're just pointing out how ridiculous this is.

Why dont they just repackage it as a cheap alternative to BD on the AM3+ platform?
AMD is transitioning from AM to FM tho. Next-gen BD is supposed to be FM2, I think, allowing for both CPU's and APU's.

Just because you can't buy them doesn't mean they're not launched.

http://www.techpowerup.com/150771/AM...Processor.html

Just google Athlon 631 and the whole first page is all pages about its launch.

Bulldozer isn't launched yet, thats why AMD hasn't released anything. Its not really ridiculous at all.

This is very likely what is going on. If it was a completely new chip you would expect L3 cache to replace the GPU or for them to use the AM3/AM3+ package.

Yes they are. Take a look at the bottom of the chart, it is faster at a lower clock so long as you use proper memory (Llano needs at least 1600 DDR3 to shine). Doing the math it works out to be about 7% faster at the same clock. If AMD can do this with their old micro-arch, it is silly to think that bulldozer will be even close to Phenom II at the same clock.

While the new 32nm Athlon II X4 631 runs at 2.6GHz and has 100w TDP !!
It is pretty well known that AMD has the stock voltage much too high for llano. It can be undervolted(check link for proof) and then overclocked (if you want) for big power savings. It will be a nice little chip with the GPU disabled.

If it is on AMD's website then it is "launched". If you look at JF-AMD post the other day about this topic you will see that he says that launch is not always accompanied by retail availability. Plus, these chips are small time especially compared to bulldozer. They are just llano chips with the GPU disabled.

Yeah, I believe I read that to. I remember reading a news article posted here that they will stop producing those chips after Bulldozer is released. Hopefully those chips drop in price but don't sell out on newegg so I can pick one up to play with/give to a friend > : D

Also I'm not an intel or amd fanboy when I say this.

But to the person who said that would these the chips with faulty gpu cores.

Well, I wouldn't be suprised, and that's not a bad thing either, because they might as well rebrand it and sell it so that they aren't losing money. I remember reading that they did with the their quad core chips, the ones with a faulty core were rebranded as triple core cpus, I forget if it was the phenom series or the athlon series, but I only read this, I could also just be wrong.

Hmmmm paper launch perhaps?

Ok, ok, perhaps I'm being a little bit harsh, I mean it's kind of unfair to expect them to announce Specs when they can't even announce a release date

It has nothing to do with can or can't... AMD WILL NOT officially announce a launch date because that is their policy. Please provide one recent example (CPU or GPU) of AMD officially announcing a date for the launch of a product in advance (more than a day or two).
