Well since they are discontinuing Athlon and Phenom these might replace those, kind of, they would be a bit lower.. You would obviously need an onboard graphics or a video card though

Bulldozer Blog thread post number #2297.

There usually is a leak of the NDA lift during the week of launch but you will hear nothing from AMD officially until the day itself.

OOOO Lets buy up all the 955's and 555's and resell them on ebay when they are sold out.... Cept 4 core BD's...

sooo

Best to worst

BD 8core
BD 6core
BD 4core

Llano 4 core apu (Liano has a 4 core right?)
Llano 2 core apu

then these things

Now we can complain even more that AMD's chips are still based on an architecture from 1950.

Sorry if I'm missing the point here, but I don't see what's so great about GPU-less Llano chips.

The CPU part of Llano was very weak compared to Sandy Bridge. A SB Core i3 dual core walks all over a quad-core Llano. IMO the redeeming feature of Llano was the GPU, which was very good for an integrated part. Now that they've removed it, what's left is essentially a Phenom II. And it's not even a drop-in upgrade. You need a new motherboard (socket FM1) to actually use the chip. And FM1 motherboards aren't exactly cheap compared to existing AM3 boards.

So what's the benefit here?

Why dont they just repackage it as a cheap alternative to BD on the AM3+ platform?
Apparently this Athlon has the CPU-NB on die instead of external like the AM3+. That is why it is on FM1 plus some other changes.

It'll probably be cheap and meant for low end computers.

Correct. The GPU takes up half the die to it would not be surprising to see them sell the CPU only part for $60-80 (high end llano is about $130). Also don't forget you can't OC the i3, where the new Athlon II should OC very nicely especially since the GPU won't be sucking power and pumping out heat.

Once you compare one of these chips at 4Ghz+ to a stock i3 (will cost quite a bit more) then it is a completely different story. Obviously, this is only for people really on a budget and possibly already own a dedicated GPU.
