Thread Starter
my caviar green is getting full again and i decided to get one more in order to expand my storage
atm i have the 1tb version and thought if i get one more raid0 will be the way to go for speed as i am moving files a lot from the caviar to usbs, external hdd and stuff, so here is my dilemma, should i just get the same 1tb one and raid0 or if i get the 2tb will it be okay with the raid0, same version i think...
and should i raid0 or raid5, whts the diff as i am new to tht

1TB version

2TB version

thanks for the help guys

Get the same 1TB model. But seriously, RAID 0 with caviar greens isn't a very smart choice.
If you pair a 2TB and 1TB drive in RAID0, you're only going to get 1TB space. Plus RAID 0 wont increase your USB transfers at all. It will always be limited to 28-31mb/s

ye thanks for the fast and helpful reply.
so shall i raid5 the two 1tb's? i prefer to have them as one drive and my usb drives as i got a usb3 external it can transfer as fast as 200mb/s, or shall i just avoid raid and have two different drives?

Oh, I thought you had USB 2.0

Well, I would just attach it and keep it as two separate drives. you've already got an SSD which is superfast. Save yourself from the RAID trouble. tongue.gif But if you're wanting it as a single drive and want speed go RAID 0. But don't keep any important data on the RAIDed drives then.

FYI you really need at least three drive to make a RAID 5 array. You could theoretically use two drives, create partitions on them, and then create a software RAID 5 on the partitions but that wouldn't serve any point. A 3 drive RAID 5 array using 1 TB drives will have a capacity of 2 TB.

I wouldn't bother with RAID. It requires wiping your drives to set it up... you also have double the chance of failure.

Just grab a cheap 2TB storage drive.
