URGENT HELP (please) Possible Video Card Problem?

Thread Starter
Ok guys I think I'm all clear on my new system (finally!) except for the video card... I have everything plugged in, Mobo installed, power supply is on. There is a green light on motherboard (the M4A79 XTD Evo), that means my mobo is in good shape correct? The light is just above the F_Panel connector pins and right below the last PCI slot. When I hit the power button though, my fan turns on and gets spinning and is a nice blue, but on my monitor I get "VGA: NO SIGNAL" (monitor is the Asus VW246H, same as in my sig rig). I'm about to turn it on and make sure the A70 fans are spinning, and if they spin, then the only thing possibly wrong is the graphics card right?

EDIT: Ok, so the A70 fans are spinning, but I'm a little worried... My mouse is the valor and it has a blue LED on the scroll wheel and it doesn't come on when the comp boots... Does this mean maybe the CPU has a problem?

EDIT: I have tested my 9500GT 512mb in another system, and it worked for the other system. I then swapped and used the other system's 9500GT in my computer, and I still have no visuals... Last page has latest info.

Hi Rivaldog,

Couple of questions. I assume that you are still getting no video displayed on your monitor?

The fan is spinning on the card and it seems as if the card is "operational"?
If so, did you make sure that the video cable is properly seated into both the card and the back of the monitor?

Also, I do not think there is anything wrong with your CPU. If the scroll wheel does not light up, have you tried moving it to another usb port? Maybe the LED is bad?

Just throwing some ideas out there.

Thank you very much for your reply, +1

Didn't check the video card fan great idea! My friend is checking for me right now while I use my Dad's computer across the hall to communicate to the outside world.

I did however, check to make sure the cables/DVI to VGA adapter are properly attached/seated on the video card and monitor, and they are.

The LED shouldn't be bad, it was working on what is in my sig right now before I fried it. I do see a red glow on the scroll wheel from the sensor so I'm pretty sure the mouse is getting power though. Haven't tried a different USB port, I'll try that next. Is there a possibility this issue is being caused by a bad CPU though? And one thing I want to know for sure, since there is a green light on my mobo, nice bright, light green, it's in good shape and working right? I also think it is working because the A70 fans are being powered by a CPU_FAN connector from the mobo and they are spinning properly.

EDIT: Ok, my friend says the fan on the GPU is spinning just fine.

I would believe that if you see lights on the mobo and the CPU fans are spinning up and the video card fans are spinning, I would assume, ugh I hate that word, that you are getting power to the mobo properly.

Also, if the optical light on your mouse is on, red, and the scroll wheel is still not on, maybe once you get the video display operational you can go into the mouse menu? and turn on the light? It could be turned off by default.

I have a Razer Deathadder and I have the option to turn on or off the same type of light on my mouse.

From what you are telling me it would sound like your mobo is fine as well as the CPU.

BTW, what video card do you have? Is it the one listed in your sig?

EDIT: Also, do you hear any beeps like irwintan27 stated?

No beeps, and I have a speaker that I got with my case plugged into the F_PANEL connector above the power and reset switches. Yes, the video card is the one in my sig rig. I just took off the side panel and looked at the fans my self, and CPU fans are spinning, as well as the GPU fan and front blue LED case fan that came with my CM Elite 430 case. PSU Fan is spinning properly as well. Everything is plugged in. This is starting to scare me... XP

I am pretty sure that if my motherboard was not booting than it wouldn't have a light on it it self that is a nice light green to be honest, and my GPU takes no PCI-e power plugs so it's gotta be getting power from the mobo to have it's fans spinning as well. Same for my CPU Cooler fans, they are being powered by a fan header on the mobo and they are spinning.

I am like 99% sure that my motherboard is working just fine, but I am unsure if it's my CPU, GPU, or maybe my monitor causing a problem... Should I try switching inputs on the monitor? It's plugged in through VGA right now to an adapter on the graphics card which has a native connector that is DVI. Should I just try using a DVI cable from the monitor to my GPU?

most of the time if something is not connected properly in the mobo it'll give you some kind of beep... its like your mobo is defective or maybe your cpu... do you have any other mobo or cpu?

I would use the DVI - DVI cable. There could be something wrong with the DVI-VGA adapter.

OH! Look on your monitor. See if you can cycle through the "source" input.Press the menu button on the front and navigate to a video input section or input source. The monitor might be set to use the opposite of what you have plugged into.

The only other mobo I have is fried and is an intel LGA 775 socket from 2007. Don't even know the model. Only other CPU I have is an E2140 LGA 775 1.6ghz dual core CPU. I am almost positive that my motherboard is working, because there are no beeps, nothing is loose, and the fans are being powered by the mobo and there is a green light on the motherboard, so it must be working properly...

Going to try that right now. It won't hurt anything turning on my PC on and off like this will it?

You really don't have to turn the computer off to change to video cable but, nothing will break just turning it on and off.

When you connect the DVI cable and the computer is on, and if there is no video display, again, go into the menu of your monitor and find something along the lines of video input or video source. Make sure it's set to DVI.
