My First Build - CPU Fan Error Message

Thread Starter
Hi Everyone -- I just finished putting together my first computer. I have the Corsair 600t case, Asus p8p67 Pro motherboard, 2600K, MSI Lightning Extreme 580 gtx, and Corsair H100 liquid cooling.

I press the On switch, and everything works, except for the H100 fans. The LED on the cooling unit's connector to the CPU lights up nicely, so this would show, at least to me, that the H100 itself is getting power, but I get a CPU Fan Error! message. The fans don't run.

New boot up. I reseated the CPU fan plug on the motherboard and now the fans do run, and the H100 lights up. But I still get the CPU Fan Error! message. I haven't installed my OS yet. This is just a boot to see if everything works. It says cannot detect hard drive as well.

"CPU Fan Error! message" i think u plug the fan connector in the wrong spot on ur mobo

i get the same thing with my harddrive so what i did was use my hot swap bay and it worked fine

ya cpu fan error is usually caused because there is no RPM being detected on the CPU fan header. locate that header and plug the H100 into that and it should cure your error message.

make sure you have your molex and 3 pin all plugged in, make sure your fans are all plugged in if you see them running, disable the cpu fan monitor on your bios/uefi.

Thanks everyone smile.gif There's only one cpu fan 3 pin on the asus p8p67, just to the north of the cpu. Beside it is a 4 pin that I don't use. I plugged the H100 Molex into a 4-pin peripheral connector plug which goes into the PSU. Both fans on the H100 work, and the LED and button that changes the rad fan speeds lights up and increases and decreases fan speeds, so it's got juice. There are two other fans in the case, and they run too. So I'm puzzled. Corsair will mail a 3-pin extension fan cable. One I got at Fry's didn't work (that fan didn't turn on), and the other cable I bought just in case seems to work. I can't test that one plug without the extension since the plug won't reach from the fan through the 600t grill into the H100 plug on the cpu or I would've tried this.

@NatPC: I haven't installed my OS yet, and the system also says "No hard drive detected." Is this an issue? Or will it go away once I install Windows and all the drivers?

good question i actually dont really know hmmm if it say gives u a error saying no harddrive connected then u should try using a hot swap bay drive thingy but i would jsut wait after u get ur OS on it first

in regards to the hard drive issue, open up your bios and see if its detected in there. if its not detected in there then you either A-have a faulty hard drive or B-have a faulty motherboard.

I have an Asus DVD drive, a Samsung F3 Spinpoint and Crucial SSD. It does detect all three of these. But I do see the message "No Hard Drive Detected." It's odd to detect the optical, HDD and SSD yet still state No Hard Drive Detected, and then again maybe not. I'm very new to this though loving every bit of it even the frustrating moments. 8D

Plug it in to the 4 pin, but use the 3 pins and the key for the 3 pins. Plug the h100 into that. It may also be that the h100's fans are dipping below 600rpm. That is the warning preset on many motherboards.

I had the same problem. Just go into the hardware monitoring section of the bios and set cpu fan speed to ignore or something similar. Fixed the problem for me.
