Quick 2500k OC Question.

Thread Starter
I go into my bios and up the multiplier to 35 to make it 3.5GHz and my computer boots up just fine as it should, but when I use Coretemp or right click on "My Computer" it keeps showing 3.3GHz. Why isn't it displaying the 3.5 like it should?
Use CPU-Z to get the real time clocks.

My Computer just tells you the original clocks.

Use CPU-Z, and put it under load, prime95, OCCT, IBT, etc.

Windows can't read the overclocked speed, use cpu-z for that. If it shows 1.6ghz then run prime and you'll see it go up.

Why 3.5? afaik when turbo kicks in it goes to 3.7ghz. please correct me if im wrong.

Just used CPU-Z and it also says 3.3GHz. Why do I have to put it under load to see a small 3.5Ghz OC? I'm just kind of messing around with it right now. I only have stock cooler so don't want to go to high. Can I get it up to 3.7 without having to mess with voltages?

did you turn off speed step? If not then the computer will clock down while not under load.

I think I turned it off. Let me check and I'll update this in a mo.

EDIT: Yeah, EIST is off and I just upped my multiplier to 37. I haven't messed with any voltages, only the multiplier. I have C1E enabled though. Will that make a difference.

I just ran Prime 95 and I seen the clock go to 3.7 like supposed to, but why won't it say that anywhere else? How can I change that?

c1e is better off enabled with SB. Read the links provided by munaim1

You can't change it. Only Third-Party apps can read it properly.
