A gaming build for a friend :)

Thread Starter
Helping a friend from school with his "gaming" build. It's his first desktop ever as he's moving from console into more PC-gaming.

CPU: i5-2500K
MB: Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z
RAM: Ripjaws X 1600MHz 2X4GB
GPU: Asus GTX 570
PSU: Corsair HX650 (is this decent or should I up to 750/850?)
HDD: WD Black 1TB
DVD: Asus 24X
Case: Corsair 600T White

We don't have any Spinpoint F3 here (I know people here love that HDD )
Also, we love Asus here because the repair center is just a 15min drive
He also thinks that case is "dam sexy" (exact words) so he's not willing to go with any other case
I guess main question I have is the PSU whether it's sufficient for long-term use (maybe 3-5 years, it's not a 24/7 PC.........it's on sale right now that's why I'm considering it)

Thanks!

Looks good.

PSU should be good unless you want to SLI and OC GPUs and CPUs

Thanks for the reply!

I don't think he is going to SLI (especially since it's a 3-slot GPU and a mATX board). Possibly he might OC the CPU in future though!

I know this system requires approximately 500W to run....so.....is extra 150W room decent?

For the sake of future proofing zerobahamut does put up a valid point.

that 570's a triple slot GPU so I doubt his board will have enough space.

Speaking as an asus fanboy myself, stay away from the DCII cards. They get the job done, dont get me wrong. But since they do take up 3 pci slots, it makes it a pain in the future if you wanna add stuff (wifi card, sound card, sli, etc). If you absolutely need that asus brand, jump on ebay and look for a asus reference card and save yourself a pci slot. Also 650w psu should be good, but id get a 750w just to help future proof in case he changes his mind about sli. Spend the extra $20 or $50 now instead of paying full price for that extra wattage in the future. Cant go wrong with corsair my tx850 has been running strong almost 24/7 for 2 years now! Cant recommend corsair enough. And they have amazing customer support.

Nice build, could save a little by getting a 6950 unlocked. Definetly add an SSD later for a speed boost.
