I've had plenty of family members suffer through cancer. Least I could do now they're gone is a small contribution to F@H.

Back to your original question;
Why not offer up your hardware for rent as a render farm?

eVGA only nets you a maximum of $10 per month in credit, so it's hardly worth it if you're looking to offset cost. I remember seeing some guy on Craigslist willing to make monthly payments if people would fold under his username. I asked him how much he was paying out of curiosity, and it was actually pretty good, but based on PPD. Unfortunately, he capped it at around 20k PPD which is half of what my i7 generates, so it hardly seemed worth it.

Other than that, there really aren't any ways to "make" money off folding. It's donating, so if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. I currently don't pay electricity, but I'll have to once I move in about a week and a half. I don't want to burden my future roommates, so I'm quitting folding for a while, at least until I'm completely settled, and even then I don't know if I'll pick it up again until I'm completely on my own.

If you can't afford it, do not feel guilty. A lot of people can't afford it. As bad as it may seem at first glance, we do need to worry about ourselves before we start trying to help others. After all, you can't fold if you can't pay rent and end up living out of your car or something.
