Too bad the Phenom II bottlenecks a single 6950 and will be crap for two of them.

Don't get a Phenom II with this budget unless you to look foolish.

While I agree a 2500k would pwn faces, You make it sound as if he'll go into a game on that 6950 and it will suck. NO. It will be 100+ FPS most of the time. Believe me, I have personal experience with that exact combo of hardware.

Here's the 1100T bottlenecking a HD5870 which is slightly faster than the 6950.

Source.

Yes, the Phenom II will be good for today's games with a single 6950, once you overclock it. What if he wants to crossfire?

But what about games 1-2 years from now? The fact the i3-2100 outperforms every single Phenom II in games does not bode well for future games on the Phenom II since they will inevitably require even more CPU power.

For $1250 it'd be a shame to have a AMD in the system.

Overclock the cpu-nb and watch what happens even if you leave the cpu speed the same.

He's obviously building around plunking in a BD.

I'm with you, budget's too high for AMD but for Dozer it's reasonable.

However, If i sat you down in front of a 130FPS game and a 150FPS game, you are telling me you can immediately point to the higher FPS game?

Ah nuts. I hope BD does better.
He should wait for BD to come out or get SB now. There's a good chance it won't be as fast as SB. Hell there's a chance it won't be as fast as Nehalem clock for clock.

^^ idk, A lot of people are giving bulldozer a good chance of competing with SB. it's ivy bridge that they say will overtake bulldozer again. I'm interested to see how this all plays out. Only 1 month to go to BD
