Your 5870 is pretty close to a 6950 in benchmarks in BC2. It will absolutely play BF3 on pretty good settings. The 69XX cards scale better in CFX than the 5000 series do, so I dont think I would want to do that, but spending 500+ dollars to crossfire 6950s may not be worth it at this stage either. I think I would wait until the 7000 ATI / 600 NVidia series comes out, and go that route.

Crossfire scaling isn't as good with the 5870s as it is with the newer series for both Nvidia and ATI. But my situation is a bit rare, I wound up getting my two 6950s for $325.00 from NE open box. I plan to sell my 5870 on ebay so my upgrade should only cost me about $100 or less. Not bad for a double performance increase in most cases.

As far as your PSU goes, you will be fine crossfiring any of those cards with a 750 watt PSU.
Well if you decide to sell your 5870 please contact me first, If the price is right
Cheers

Crossfire 6870s will be faster than any single video card and costs under $400 for pair, based off prices lately. When I bought mine, they were $235, now they can be found for $175-$200.

Uuhg. I would go 5870 CF or GTX 580. 6870CF is pretty strong but games that do not use CF well, you got a pretty bland card.

Damir, I considered the 6870s for a moment, but in those cases where crossfire doesn't scale well or they haven't issued a CAP, you are left with one 6870, not the best setup.

What do you think, could benchmarks here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...ossFire/1.html be accurate for 6870 cf?
Thanks!

For CF setups, you need to use full screen to have crossfire working, so if you like to do windowed-mode, it won't work with CF. Some games do not work with crossfire mode, but it should not be a problem since the 6870/5870 are strong cards by themselves. Also, as amtbr mentioned, if there are no CAP(Catalyst Application Profile) for a new game yet, you'll be forced to use a single card until a profile is made. A new CAP comes out every 2-3 weeks though, so it wouldn't be a big problem.

I actually don't use crossfire mode a lot, but I have not had any problems with it whenever I did use it.

I would recommend MSI with their Twin Frozr II heatsinks and serial number warranty (you only need to use the serial number to get an RMA).
Twin Frozr II Version
Hawk Version

You need a side fan to get rid of their heat or else the top card will run very hot. You can also get 2 different cards and have the top one use reference cooling like this card, while the bottom one use any different kind of cooler so you don't have to worry about the top card running much hotter.

I think you should wait for the next series of cards to come out.

You card is still very strong and can handle pretty much any game I'm sure of it.
