Kone[+] vs EC1

Thread Starter
While i wait for October (when i'll be buying my new rig), i decided to go ahead and purchase my new mouse+pad and my new monitor. I ordered a kone[+] & alumic combo. So far, so good. However, since everyone's out of w2363d, i had to settle for a xl2410t, which comes bundled with an EC1 & swift. Assuming i'd get better performace from a kone+, i decided to keep the order.

The roccat arrived today, and, after fiddling a bit with the interface, i didn't get the great performance i was expecting based on the numbers advertised. And forget about the alumic, on which i couldn't get a decent lift-off distance, however i tried.

In the end, my EC1 is performing better on short strokes and overall tracking versus the kone+, which leads to my question:

Am i doing something wrong? Is the EC1 really better, or may have i just not set the options correctly enough on my kone+?

I'll let you experts work your magic.

Make sure to upgrade the Kone+ to the latest firmware. From my ownexpeience, Kone+ was fine, although i used it on a dark cloth

What mouse did you have before? What makes you think Kone+ doesn't offer great performance?

Well, i think i figured it out, meanwhile. Isn't the kone+ supposed to have 5% positive acceleration? I was having a hard time making precise strokes to point at stuff, while the EC1 was doing great on that dept. If it's not that, then it's defective...

The laser sensor found in Kone[+] is quite defective - is has 5% positive accelration on all surface and very low max speed on cloth surfaces.

The zowie EC1 use very good optical sensor and offer also custom lens for minimize the LoD to 1.5m/m(just like the laser sensor in the kone[+]) - which is another big plus for low sensitivies/small surface users that tend to lift the mouse up and reposition it
But "suffer" from above average prediction/angle snapping/drift control/ExactFree/Mouse correction (which make you basically draw a perfect sraight line even if you dont try to) but there is a people who mind it and hate it, and theres people who dont / cant notice and there is a players that can swear by it / got used to it all over the years - so thats is pure personal to the user preferences.

Compared to Xai on my Qck+, Kone+ has waaaay better max speed. I dunno why. I've had both (Kone+ still).

I don't personally even notice that 5% positive acceleration when gaming, it's not so big.

___
Edit: I don't use so low sensitivity that low max speed would disturb my gaming. My gaming mouse is Kinzu atm.

laser max speed on cloth surface is not optimal. if u use plastic or metal pad its a different story.

I noticed this too when I had my QPAD 5K. I'm still chalking it up to be placebo as it makes no technical sense, but I was able to make my Xai malfunction with nearly no effort on my cloth pads, and was not able to do the same easily with the 5K.

The only reasoning I can think of that the mice share compared to the Xai is weight. Maybe the small amount of extra weight made a difference in how fast we were swiping somehow? I realize that is a gigantic stretch, but I suppose it's remotely possible? Otherwise, maybe we just wanted those mice to work better mentally because they were so much more money (I know I paid at least $120 after shipping for the 5K because it wasnt on qpadusa yet, and I know the Kone+ is not cheap either and is hard to find in the states)? haha tongue.gif

I think it's definately not about placebo or weight. I did a lot of comparisons but one thing I noticed that when I got Xai, it was actually harder to get malfunction than after a week of using it. If it's about dust, then why Kone+ is not as sensitive for dust? Does Kone+'s Tracking Control Unit really increase tracking? Dunno...

I got my Kone+ for 60€ (84$).
