Hello all.
ok, cut along story short.
i have just upgraded to :

Intel Core i7 2600K
8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3
Asus P8P67 Pro Intel P67
Agility3 60gb SSD ( xD )
my 3 yr old 680w psu,
im my old antec 900

im using my LG flatron 22", MAX 1600x1200

i am still running a 516mb 4850..

DO I..
-new monitor to up gaming to full 1900hd,
-Get a 6870, and play games well now and till 7000 are out and @ good price.
-get a 6950 so it will last and dont upgrade to a 7000 (atleast for along time)
-bite the bullet and wait till 7000 and upgrade gpu.

I am wanting to play Skyrim and BF3!!! nov going to be a gr8 month

Im not rich (who is..) and would prob be only able to do one thing at a time!
i heard i could use my gpu to game on a HD monitor, but then i think id rather game at 1400 with better graphics then 1900 on low...

Please give you ideas/advise.

Kind regards
Oz

PS not anytime soon, but i do wish to set up an eyefinity set up.. when i get a new place! lol so not this year, may not even be next... just worth pointing that out too.. hence i want to stick with ATI

I was leaning towards the HD6950 but barely over the 6870, then I got to the end of your post. Definitely get the HD6950. turn up the resolution, turn on some eye candy and later go multi-monitor.

Remember in years to come if you need more than the single 6950 you can Xfire.

that was more of me giving the reason why i like ati, i could well have a new PC b4 i have the room or cash for eyefinity so i didnt really wot it to be in the equation...

but what you say is true! .. no thorts on waiting for the 7000, or just a small 6850 till then?

xD

ati is good and all, but am going to put a word in from the "green" team,
if your going to go multi monitor and that is in a year or two's time, the 6950 wont be up to it for games out in 2 years time with multi monitor,
a 560ti is a amazing bang for buck video card one of the best money wise,
it is running BF:BC2 maxed at 1920x1080 and in sli it can rock some socks,
if BF3 is the goal, a 560ti is a dam good start, and sli will be as good if not better than a 580 so, in my eyes a 560ti and a single monitor is the way to go,
asses the GPU situation when you get the monitor's and get what you need then instead of getting something that might work in future, or might just be a flop, so there is my 2cents.
it would be sad to leave a 4850 in a rig that good
soz if that didn't have a "buy this .. " line in it but i don't no just how much $ u have or what u see in the future

I'm all about purchasing the right piece of technology available at the time your ready to buy. Remember there is always going to be something better coming down the pipe.

I want to do some price comparisons for you. I'll post again after this meeting wraps up.

Thank you guys, still going to question the Greenie above! .. (but will look at them)
price wise, as an upgrade iether going to be 130-150£ (monitor OR 6870) or maybe save a month to get a GPU which will last alot longer (6950)... keeping inmind the 6870 will most likely be sold when 7000's are out and 'stable'

i know theres always new tech around the corner, but at this time, is it worth just waiting one more corner till the 7000's, or bite the bullet, invest and carry on around the block a few more times.. (hmm, make sence..)

and their own Novatech H6950 (don't know if this is reference or not) for 200.http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p.../NOV-6950.html
