System quit working last night....damn

Yep, we've been having a lot of power flickers and what not recently, of course I'm on a surge protector, but they can only do so much I suppose.

I can get it to turn on sometimes, it boots into windows and shortly there after will just cut out as if I had hard turned it off. The lights on the MB are back on instantly, so it's like something is cutting out.

It wont always start, even with the controls on the MB, even though they are lit up. I'm assuming PSU, but who knows until I get it all ripped apart and sitting a box in the dinning room for proper testing..../sigh

My bet is going to a power issue. Try a different surge protector, different wall outlet, different power supply (in that order).

When you get it up and running, I would suggest an investment in an APC UPS.
Best money I've ever spent.

Try unplugging everything from your pc, hold the power button in for a few seconds, then plug it all back and see if it's any better.

I agree with JoeC, a ups in invaluable.

It was not the outlet and not the power strip, so unfortunately I had to disassemble. And start diagnosing. All signs are pointing towards the psu ATM. I think I might try to her my hands on a psu tester.

I wouldn't rely on a PSU tester since they won't test under load. The best way is to get a known working PSU and hook it up to your mobo. If there are any computer shops in your area call them up and ask them if they would mind if you brought your computer in and hooked it up to one of their PSU's.
