that is a great point. the frostbite engine looks intense too eek.gif

Two 6950s will cost as much as a 580, or just a little more and will do better. The dx9 only demo used more than 1GB of VRAM already.

Huhh makes a good point, if I were you I'd wait a little longer because the HD 7000 series might be dropping as early as october. If you need something sooner than that I'd get a 6950 and that way you will still have cash left to upgrade to a hd7000 or gtx 600 series when they come out.

Most likely a 775watt PSU will be fine for SLI 580's. I'd want to know what the 12v rails are before I'd give more of a opinion than that. I've seen 600watt PSUs that put out enough on the 12v rails to allow for SLI 580s. My 750watt Silverstone is a little old now, but puts out just enough for me to feel safe...trouble is that it won't have all the cables I need for SLI as i am using an adapter to make two six pins an eight pin already.

Personally...if you are iching for kepler I'd do the 560ti. They can handle pretty much any game at 1080p at higher than average settings. I didn't want to wait around so I got a 580 that I saw come my way at a good price. Honestly, I don't know if I will ever SLI it. it has enough power on its own at 1080p. I think I will need to upgrade to multiple monitors before I'll "need" to add another 580...(you need SLI to use surround view). By the time a lone 580 can't handle higher than average settings it will be time to get a whole new GPU. The new game releases don't really require that much GPU power these days when compared to older/existing games...though (hopefully?) that might change one of these days. Metro 2033 is pretty much the only exception and has become the new "Crysis"...however, even on high settings the game is fine.

At 1080p the highest VRAM ussage I've seen was 1.2GB, but I would only buy a GPU that would fully uttilize its VRAM. I've seen some GPUs with 2GB or 3GB of VRAM that will likely never use it because the GPU isn't capable of high AA at really high resolutions with newer games. I think I've even seen some overpriced 2GB 560ti's...I don't think it can even use that much as you aren't going to be running 16xAA with a 560ti

But two 580s would kill two 6950s. By the time he upgrades to another 580 for sli another 580 would be cheaper. Maybe when the 580 is like $500+ it's not worth it, but they are getting cheaper every month.

Three or 4 6950s would be the same at that point in price, and still be better. 69xx was a score by AMD.
