Thread Starter
but no doubt I wont make up the $230+ premium on the 580!

there are 560 ti's selling @ $220-240

When Kepler is released your 560ti's will go for $180 maybe less depending on how well it clocks plus you'll competing with a lot of others to get rid of them. There will also be lots of people trying to get rid of their 580's, which is when I go 580 SLI. So a 580 next month and 580 sli when Kepler comes out.

If you want to SLI your 560Ti get a used one if u can. My first 460 hawk was new and I got a second used. The used one clocks higher than my new lol.

I think you will be reasonably satisfied with the gtx 560 ti in BF3. You will be amassed of the speed of the next gen amd, and look forward to what Kepler will bring. And of cause we will be looking forward to the next demanding games like GTA 5?, Microsoft Flight? And why deal with the hassle of sli?

EDIT: Why not sli Kepler.

Wasent kepler GPU's pushed back to late 2012-2014.

Currently Have a 580 lightning, was thinking I would sell mine and wait for kepler ( game on Alien ware laptop until kepler)

get a 560ti now, and buy a keplEr not keplAr later.

40nm > 28nm = HUGE performance increase, and we dont know if they're going to be PCI-e 3.0 ready cards, might aswell be !

To the OP, get what you want now. IF you wait for the next best thing, you will always be waiting because something better is coming out all the time.
3x6970s is the better choice for the cash.

Btw, Crysis 2 uses however much VRAM you have so its useless to base VRAM usage estimates on it....
I don't play Crysis 2, so I can't say.

4 580's would then again Kill the 69xx, three or four. So this is your Score? You need four AMD cards to match up to / beat two nvidia cards performance?

The 580 is the most powerful out of them all. Why would I buy 4x HD6950's if I can afford 4x GTX 580. On top of that when you say in your own words that you'd need three or four to match up for two 580's. confused.gif

OP: Just get the GTX580 and pickup a second one when the prices drop. You can get some good deals on these cards on OCN marketplace too.
It takes 3x6970s to beat 2x580s, and they scale better, and do better for the same price.

Depends on how the cards fare. They could be just a shrink.

Will BF3 really need 2GB Vram? That leaves AMD as a pretty clear choice for me but I hear their drivers suck :/

I already pointed out that he would need a 3-way Compatible Motherboard to run 3x6970. He has a MSI Z68a GD80, NOT a 3-way Crossfire/SLI board.

And it takes 3 580's to beat 3 6970's. Whats your point? the 6970 certainly doesn't do better, if it did you wouldn't need 3 of them to out perform 2 580's.

Obviously the op can afford a GTX580. Then why would he get the "lesser" card, the HD6950 or 6970?For those of us who don't want to sacrifice the best performer for the AMD cards "the better choice for the cash" would gladly pick the 580. Seriously your logic is flawed, how does 3 cards vs 2 cards sound right to you? Two of AMD's top cards cant keep up with 2 of nVidia's top cards? So you need to add a third one? All you are doing is trying to keep up the fanboy $hit and keep AMD's lesser cards in the game.
