Quick WC Question

Thread Starter
Little Background,

Woke up one day and said hey I want to build my own case

Have a Black Ice Xtreme III rad cooling a i7 2600K (AquaComputer Cuplex Kryos XT with Prolimatech PK-1) and a GTX 570 (Heatkiller hole edition) with high speed fans.

Res --> Pump --> Rad --> CPU --> GPU --> Res

Question is about temperature: Ambient ~ 26ºC

CPU @ 4.2 - Idle 38ºC

GPU Stock settings ATM - 26º - 27ºC

Do we think it is air in the lines (effecting only the CPU)

Or TIM issue and remount?

I am sure I will get both answers however hoping one is chosen more then the other.

TIM issue and remount. Those temps arent horrible, but probably a bit high. What TIM are you using? I hear AS5 takes 200 hours to really "break in" to get low temps. Remount it with some MX4 and see what happens.

Probably that then. I'd get some MX4, see if they have any instructions for use just in case, and you should be good. my 2600K was idling about 10C less than yours when I was using it.
What are the load temps? My i7 920 at 4.2GHz used to idle about 11-12ºC above ambient but it doesn't really mean anything.

You'll probably find that the Prolimatech is a bit better than the MX-4 so worth sticking with it.

PK-1 is just under indigo extreme in current tests. Beats out anyother form of paste on the market (well maybe except Shin Etsu which we are still waiting on results, and indigo isn't really paste either.).

Get some load temps with IBT or Prime 95. Get some load temps with a graphical benchmark program (3dmark, heaven, MSI etc.). Stress the system to the max and see how high the temps go on each individual part.

Then post pics.

Didn't run any Prime or anything however when installing Windows updates and such I did see 50ºC.

I know these are high as I just built 2 2500K systems for co-worker and each had a CM 212+. These systems did 30ºC Idle and 55ºC after 24 hours Prime.

So I know I should be a lot lower, just confused on why the GPU is outstanding where the CPU isn't (I personally think I need to re-mount and see what the temps become, but am unsure about air). I will be doing this tonight after work, but will admit it will be a pain in the A! As this custom case is small and not much room for movement of anything (includes arms and hands!). Though once all set I will be posting pictures for the !!

I'd say reseat the cpu block and reapply thermal paste. those temps are kinda high. I'm using AS5 on my sig rig with my cpu OC'd to 4.2 and the highest temp I've seen is 48C while running Intel Burn Test.

PK1 is very good, but it takes a while to cure at least 10 hours.

But an AMD is a different CPU altogether so you can't compare.

Sandybridge runs cooler than the quad core 9XX series so you can't compare them either.
