Watercooling noob

Thread Starter
Towards the end of this month I plan on purchasing the EK H30 Supreme LT 120 watercooling kit. I figured a kit would be a good idea because I am completely new to the world of water cooling and I could learn from that.

Rather than using the CoolStream Rad XT 120, I plan on getting the XT 240.

I am also going to get coloured tubing rather than using the coloured coolant because I have heard that they can clog up the loop (Am I right?).

Next thing, what is a good brand of tubing, or does it not really matter?

Also, what should I put in the system? I have heard that you should use distilled water but other people have said you should use a coolant, so I'm a little confused on that one.

And one final thing, should I use the Yate Loon fans that are provided or should I change them, if so, what for?

I think that is everything, I posted just to make sure the changes that I have made will work. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Happy OCing!

I like Primochill Tubing. You should go with Distilled + Silver Kill Coil.

Yate Loon Fans are budget fans, if youd rather not spend $15/fan. Colored coolant can clog yes.

Get another rad. You will be better of with a swiftech mcr220 than a XT 240. Use water, not colored coolant.

Thanks for the info, I was maybe thinking about some Xigmatek fans they seem pretty decent, and the appear to be very quiet.

I agree with Nynn. As far as the tubing though, Primochill, Feser, or Tygon will all work fine. I've had all three and never had any problems at all. Also keep in mind to get a good TIM. I haven't been very active lately on cooling, but I've always used Shin Etzu or whatever the name is (I honestly can't remember). If you have the money I would switch out the Yate Loons with something better, but they can suffice for starters.

Another question, for example, will a Swiftech rad work with an EX block. Its not like CPUs not working in different sockets?

Do you mean with the EK block? Of cours it does, only thing to ensure is that the fittings you are using is all the same size.

Edit: For TIM you can just use whats with the block, think it's Arctic Cooling MX-2.
