AMD Phenom II X4 955 vs Phenom II X6 1100T

Thread Starter
I want to buy a AMD CPU that will be good for 2011-2012-2013 games.
So,guys,i don't know which one to choose:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (with 4 cores)
or
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition 3.30/3.70 GHz (with 6 cores)
1100T because it can overclock better, and it's future proofed with 2 extra cores for the future with games that will support them, watch out for the Intel boys on this thread though.

If you're dead set on AMD gaming get a 990 chipset board, and get a filler cpu until bulldozer is released. It's your best bet future wise.

yep. grab the cheaper 955 with a 990x board and when bulldozer hits grab one of those.

Considering both of those AMD chips bottleneck high-end GPU setups today, it's definitely not going to last until 2013.

The i5-2500K will.

990FX, 955. Bulldozer will replace Deneb. We don't know how BD will perform, but stating that Sandy Bridge is the only option right now is incredibly biased. Bulldozer could very well perform better for around the same price. Only way to know will be to wait and try it. No, a 955 won't bottleneck ANY GPU as long as your achieving a frame-rate your comfortable with. Sure it won't be spiking at 99% usage 24/7, but you can keep it for a future build, where it will really be pushed.

The i5-2500K will.

High end crossfire or SLI gpu's only. Not single. I would get a cheap X2 or X3 Phenom II, which run between 60-80 bucks to hold over until the FX chips arrive. If they exist. Also an X3 or X2 may unlock a core or 2. If you are hell bent on getting something now, def the 1100T, or 1090T if you want the same thing for cheaper.

No, the bottleneck still exists even if you get the FPS you wanted.

Sure you might get the fps you want with today's games. But what about tomorrow's games that will inevitably require even more powerful CPU performance?

Again, there's no way a Phenom II setup lasts 2 years for gaming.

Anyone who picks a 1100T over a 2500K for anything other than encoding is clueless.

He'll upgrade, I highly doubt he'll keep a 955 for two years.

Besides, the world is ending in 2012, so he's saving some cash tongue.gif
