New Build Issue

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Got my new system installed, but I'm having an issue. My PSU is working fine, as it is powering my mobo and turning it on, it has a green light right below the last PCI slot that seems to me to mean it's all good, and is powering my front blue LED case fan, and the fan on the PSU it self is spinning. My A70's fans are spinning and are being powered by the CPU_FAN header on my motherboard.

My graphics card, the 9500GT, seems to be operational as it's fan is spinning and is only being powered by the PCIe slot on the mobo, but I am getting no visual display. I have tried using the DVI to VGA adapter that came with the card and got no video display, and I tried using DVI to DVI straight from the card into the monitor and got no display. I tested the card in another system using the DVI to VGA adapter and that system got visuals and works perfectly fine.

I have not been able to do anything with the disc that came with my motherboard as I have gotten no visual display... Should I have wiped my hard drive before trying to use it on the new system? I believe, if any are required for mobo's, that the HDD still has the drivers from the old mobo in it because I didn't wipe it... And I don't have another way to install windows 7 into it if I did wipe it, which is why I didn't wipe it...

Is it possible that my CPU is dead? Do I need to get the old hard drive running on a different system so I can wipe it and find a way to install windows 7 again? Do I just need to turn on the computer and insert the mobo disc and hope what ever needs to install, installs? What do I need to do?

Did you check the 4 pin molex?

probably a dumb suggestion but i made that mistake, freaked out for two hours, and then realized it.

4 pin molex? For the front fan? That's working just fine, I'm just not getting a visual display... My graphics card has no PCIe power connectors on it and the 4 pin CPU power cable is plugged in nice and snug, in case either of those are what you meant. Does it matter which way the 4 pin CPU plug is connected in? I've heard it will end up only going in one way, so I'm guessing that since it's in, it's in correctly.

Is your ram inserted correctly? If it is try booting with a single stick to rule out possible ram problems.

It is inserted correctly, yes, but I have not tried using a single stick. I'll do so right now.

I had this problem with drivers before. When I loaded windows on, two screens were plugged in and windows tried to find drivers for them both and just black screened. Install windows with one screen, was fine. Then installed latest drivers and plugged in my secondary monitor.

Using a single stick of RAM did not work... Although, I looked in my motherboard's manual, and my RAM is not on the list of "DDR3 1600 capability" in the manual. Does that matter?

Skaboy, what do you suggest I do then? Put the hard drive on a different system and wipe it? Then do I need to reinstall windows onto it from the new system and after windows is installed use the motherboard disc to get the correct motherboard drivers? Or wipe the hard drive, install the motherboard disc so it gets the mobo drivers and BIOS and then install windows?

I would say no, lot's of RAM that's not in the manual still works. Mine for example.

Well i'm not saying it would work, just that that was my experience. We all know installing windows again and getting all your settings plus transferring all your data is a pain so the easiest thing to do would be to chuck a spare HD in there if you have one and install windows on to that. Just to check it works before wiping everything. I wasted hours of my life trying to solve a problem like, in fact twice!

Do you have access to any other computers out of interest?

Do you get the BIOS loading screen come up? and then does it go black? If so insert the windows disc and try to boot to that. Just a game of trial and error to begin with.

You say its a new system, is everything brand new, i.e. never been mated before together? Has it worked before?

No spare HDD's that don't already have windows, and I don't have a way to install windows. My mom ran off with my windows 7 disc and I do believe, lost it.

No computers I would say are out of interest, I am using my Dad's to talk on here, which he uses frequently.

No, I do not even get the BIOS load up screen, I do not have the BIOS installed for my new mobo onto my HDD...

Everything is new except for the HDD, been using that for a few months and it worked fine in my old system, the 9500GT is old had that for a few years and used it properly in my old system and it works in my brothers system, the optical drive is from the old system, RAM is new, mobo is new, CPU is new, PSU is new. PSU works for sure, it's powering my mobo and front case fan, Mobo has a green light on it, no beeping, is powering my 9500GT's fan and my A70's fans just fine so I have to assume that it is working, I do not know if I may have messed up a pin or two on my CPU during install. I can only hope that I did not, but I am close to sure that I didn't....

If you have a motherboard port speaker, I would plug that in and listen to the beep(s). Another problem that could be happening is the VGA/DVI Cable is dead. Many of my friends had that problem. But the best shot is using a Post Speaker.
