Motherboard choice dilemma...

Hello all! After researching and asking some questions here, I finally have a build more or less hammered out. After showing my father (who helped me with my current/first machine, does computer stuff for a living) said build parts, he offered me a motherboard that he ordered a second of by mistake a while back. The motherboard is a ASUS M4A79T Deluxe, never removed from the box, brand spankin' new.

Here's the build I have lined up. We decided that since I planned on overhauling so much of my machine, that I may as well build a new one. That way I don't have a pile of useless parts, and can recycle my old ones when I upgrade this machine in the future.

I would simply take the free board, but I am still really wanting the EVO. Though he says it has some bells and whistles that I wouldn't really need, he is as wary as I of the board's age. Would the M4A79T have a chance at being Bulldozer ready? I don't plan to immediately upgrade to it when released, but at the same time I kind of dread having to replace the motherboard when I eventually do. After comparing it to the board that I had selected, the ASUS M5A99X EVO, the older board my Dad offered doesn't look too shabby for it's age. Would there honestly be a significant difference in performance between the two motherboards for a medium-high end gaming rig?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated!!!

Motherboards most of the time don't have a huge effect on performance unless it's one of the ones with a notorious chipset.

I would look at getting a better case than that though:

Antec 300: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129066

Fractal 3000: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811352010

These will all serve you better than the case you picked.

Yep. Take the free board. Just grab a new board with a BD in the future when you think it's time to upgrade. The M4A79T Deluxe is good up to 140w CPU's and has a 8+2 VRM per it's specs . Nothing stands out that screams you'd game better on the EVO.

Or just don't buy the 1090t and wait for BD/990FX board?

Funny you picked the Antec 300; that's the case my Dad has on his gaming machine.

Thanks for the input on the mobo. For the case, is there anything in particular that's undesirable about it? All the reviews I've read have been positive, and I thought the two 120mm fans (room for one more too) would be sufficient. Plus it's dead sexy...

No worries, Dad has those out the wazoo. Same with disc drives, etc. I'll be reusing the monitor and mouse/keyboard too.

Anybody else have any thoughts on the motherboard?

I apologize, everyone. Both for the double post and making this thread in the wrong section. If by chance a mod could give it a kick into the AMD motherboard section that would be fantastic!
