Turn on the encrytion key to get applied whenever you connect to you access point.

Using wpa_supplicant? I did
wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
and now the iwconfig output looks like (only showing the wlan0 interface)
Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"My SSID"
Mode: Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
             Bit Rage=2 Mb/s Tx-Power=15 gBm
             Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
             Encryption key:off
             Link Quality=29/70 Signal level=-81 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
             Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Am I connected and maybe something's just wrong with my IP configuration? Still no Internet and other PC's can't ping it.

Both

iwconfig wlan0 key restricted
iwconfig wlan0 key s:yourpasskeykeyhere

fail. It says
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument

(Yes I put my passkey instead of the placeholder lol tongue.gif)

With this one seems like you're already connected. try dhclient wlan0 lets see
if you successfully get an IP address. if you still can't get IP try rebooting the machine.

Got it working. Apparently I had to put the hex representation of my WPA key in the wpa_supplicant.conf file, even though I was able to put the straight text version on my laptop. doh.gif
